The table is one profile. An advisor can quote Smart Term Plan Plus against the other plans for your exact age, income and medical history, and tell you which riders are worth the money.

Regular Cover: a level ₹1 crore for the whole term, and the variant most buyers need. Smart Term Plan Plus is really eight plans under one name, and you fix which one at purchase. Smart Cover, which pays 150% of the cover in the first 15 years, cannot be bought on regular pay, so we left its switch off.
Unlike ICICI and Bajaj, Axis Max Life lets your nominee decide at claim time how the money is paid: a lump sum, a monthly income over 10, 20 or 30 years, or a split in steps of 10%. Terminal illness is paid early up to ₹1 crore, and premiums stop from the date of diagnosis.
Is Axis Max Life cheaper than ICICI or HDFC Life?
It depends on your age. At 30 it sat in the middle, ₹317 above Bajaj Life eTouch II; at 40 it was second-cheapest. From 45 it was the dearest of the four by a wide margin: ₹43,218 at 50 against ₹34,242 on Bajaj Life eTouch II.
| Plan | Non-smoker, 30 | Smoker, 30 |
|---|---|---|
| Bajaj Life eTouch II | ₹10,299 | ₹18,293 |
| HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Supreme Plus | ₹10,531 | ₹18,430 |
| Axis Max Life Smart Term Plan Plus | ₹10,616 | ₹19,109 |
| ICICI Pru iProtect Smart Plus | ₹10,854 | ₹18,453 |

Why might your Axis Max Life quote differ from this one?
Age, especially after 40
From 40 to 45 the non-smoker premium jumps from ₹17,663 to ₹27,449, 55% in five years, a steeper step than on the other three plans. If you are close to 45, buying before your birthday is worth checking.
Being a woman
Axis Max Life's prospectus sets a flat 15% lower premium for women, for the whole premium payment term. The quote bore it out: ₹9,024 for a 30-year-old woman against ₹10,616 for a man.
Smoking
Axis asks about the last 24 months. Its smoker loading was the heaviest of the four at 30: ₹19,109, 1.8 times the non-smoker price, and ₹77,793 at 50. Our guide on smoker rates and medicals explains the checks.
Cover to 70
Ten more years of cover, to 70, cost ₹12,970 a year at 30, ₹2,354 more. Our note on choosing the policy term helps you pick the end age.
Paying for fewer years
The quote offered 15, 12, 10 or 5 years of payments. Fifteen years was ₹17,434 a year and ten years ₹22,040, against ₹10,616 on regular pay. Read our limited pay vs regular pay guide before you choose.
Monthly mode
₹934 a month, which is ₹11,208 a year, ₹592 more than paying yearly.
Your health and the insurer's checks
The quote asks about diabetes, income, education, whether you are salaried and your pincode before it shows a price, and we kept all of these fixed. Axis Max Life sets the final premium only after its own underwriting, so what your medical reports and declarations show can add a loading or change the offer.
Which riders can you add, and are they worth it?
Three riders are named in the plan's prospectus. We did not price them for this page; each is quoted on its own cover amount.
- Waiver of Premium Plus. Waives every future premium on dismemberment or one of 11 listed critical illnesses. Nothing is paid if the illness is diagnosed within 90 days of the rider starting, and the rider ends at 70.
- Critical Illness and Disability. A lump sum on diagnosis, on a 22-condition or 64-condition list, with or without disability cover. Rider cover is capped at ₹1 crore and at your base sum assured.
- Accidental Death and Dismemberment. Pays the rider cover on top of the base cover if an accident causes death, or the loss of both hands, both feet, one of each, or sight in both eyes, within 180 days. Capped at ₹1 crore and at the base death benefit.
Which of these are worth paying for is in our guides to term insurance riders and the waiver of premium rider.
What's the catch with Axis Max Life on price?
Insta Payment is ₹5,000 to ₹2 lakh paid early out of the final claim, not a one-day settlement, and it isn't paid at all if death happens in the first policy year. Special Exit Value, the premiums-back option, needs a policy term of 30 years or more and opens only from the 25th policy year. And at 45 and 50 this was the dearest of the four plans we quoted, so if you are buying later in life, get a side-by-side quote.
Axis Max Life premium, questions answered
Is Axis Max Life Smart Term Plan Plus the cheapest of the big term plans?
No, not at any of the six ages we priced. We priced four plans for ₹1 crore to 60 on the same day. It was the dearest of the four at 25, 45 and 50. At 30 a non-smoker pays ₹10,616 here against ₹10,299 on Bajaj Life eTouch II. The gaps are small, so weigh how each plan pays out and how the insurer handles claims before price.
What does Axis Max Life charge for ₹1 crore at 50?
₹43,218 a year for a non-smoker and ₹77,793 for a smoker, for cover to 60. That is the highest of the four plans we priced at 50: Bajaj Life eTouch II was ₹34,242 for the same non-smoker. If you are buying near 50, compare all four before you choose.
Is Axis Max Life term insurance cheaper for women?
Yes, by 15%. The prospectus gives women a flat 15% lower premium for the whole premium payment term, and the quote matched it: ₹9,024 a year for a 30-year-old woman against ₹10,616 for a man, for ₹1 crore of cover to 60.
Does the Axis Max Life premium include GST?
No GST is added. Individual life insurance has been exempt from GST since 22 September 2025, under CBIC Notification 16/2025-Central Tax (Rate) of 17 September 2025, and every quote on this page carried no tax. Group cover, such as a policy from your employer, still carries 18% GST.
