Star Health Super Star vs Care Supreme: Which Is Better? (2026)
Star Health Super Star vs Care Supreme, compared on claim record, bonus, restoration, maternity and consumables, with who each plan suits and what to check.

Super Star or Care Supreme: which should you buy?
Care Supreme is the better buy for most people: Care Health has the stronger claim record, and Care Supreme's built-in bonus is not reduced by a claim. Star Health Super Star is the one to pick if you are planning a child, because it sells a maternity option and Care Supreme does not. Both plans pay for any room, with no disease sub-limits and no co-payment in the base plan.
Care Health settles 96.0% of claims and draws 42.9 complaints per 10,000 claims, while Star Health settles 89.3% and draws 53.9 (IRDAI data, a weighted average of the last three financial years, latest available as of March 2026). Those figures are published per insurer, not per plan.
Premiums depend on your age, city and cover. nyvo's premium database covers Care Supreme, at about ₹9,500 a year for a 30-year-old with ₹10 lakh of cover in Zone 1 (720 quotes, April 2026), but not Super Star, so this page compares what each plan pays for rather than a price. A quote for both plans on the same cover is the only fair way to compare cost.
How do Super Star and Care Supreme compare, feature by feature?
Super Star and Care Supreme match on room rent, disease sub-limits, base co-payment, unlimited restoration and the standard waiting periods. They differ on the insurer's claim record, how the built-in bonus behaves after a claim, how high the cover goes, how many children fit on a floater and what each sells as an option, maternity above all.

Where is Super Star the better choice?
Super Star suits a couple planning a child, or a young buyer who expects to stay claim-free and wants the premium priced at their entry age for as long as possible. Its base cover also pays 90 days before admission against Care Supreme's 60, and includes air ambulance cover.
- Maternity and newborn cover, as a paid option. Maternity Expenses pays ₹50,000 or ₹1 lakh a delivery after a 24-month wait, or ₹30,000 a delivery after 12 months, and covers the newborn from birth up to ₹2 lakh or ₹5 lakh depending on your sum insured. Care Supreme has no maternity benefit and no add-on for one. See how maternity waits and limits compare.
- Freeze Your Age. Each renewal premium is worked out on the age you were when you bought the policy, until your first paid in-patient, day care or AYUSH claim, or age 55, whichever comes first. nyvo's record of Care Supreme lists no equivalent.
- A guaranteed bonus with no ceiling, inside the plan. The paid Super Star Bonus adds 100% of the sum insured every year whether or not you claim, with no ceiling. Care Supreme's in-plan option, Cumulative Bonus Super, stops at 500%; its uncapped bonus is sold as a separate Care Advanced add-on policy.
- Longer pre-hospitalisation, 90 days against 60. Both plans pay 180 days after discharge.
- Air ambulance in the base cover, up to ₹5 lakh a year. On Care Supreme it is a paid add-on with the same ₹5 lakh yearly limit.
- More children on a floater, up to 4 against Care Supreme's 2.
Where does Care Supreme pull ahead?
Care Supreme suits most buyers, because the insurer behind it has the better claim record and its built-in bonus is not reduced by a claim. It also sells a ₹6 crore cover. Super Star's defined covers stop at ₹1 crore, and that top tier, like its Unlimited option, is open only to entrants aged 65 or under.
- The better claim record. Care Health settles 96.0% of claims against Star Health's 89.3%, and draws 42.9 complaints per 10,000 claims against Star Health's 53.9 (IRDAI data, a weighted average of the last three financial years, latest available as of March 2026).
- A built-in bonus that survives a claim. Care Supreme adds 50% of the sum insured every year, up to 100%, whether or not you claim. Super Star's built-in bonus adds 50% only for a claim-free year, and a claim takes back whatever part of the bonus it uses. Read no-claim bonus vs guaranteed bonus.
- More cover at the top end. Care Supreme is sold from ₹5 lakh to ₹6 crore. Super Star stops at ₹1 crore or its Unlimited option, and Unlimited switches off the cumulative bonus, restoration, Super Star Bonus and Limitless Care.

What should you check before buying either plan?
Both plans are sold as a base cover plus paid options, so the quote in front of you decides what you are actually buying. Ask for the full list of options selected on each quote, and check these points before you pay, starting with the ones that can only be chosen when you first buy.
Super Star
- Consumables, high-end diagnostics, durable medical equipment and the annual health check-up can only be added within the first three policy years, and the waiting-period reductions only at first purchase.
- The 12-month pre-existing option and the five-condition waiver stop at age 65, and the specified-illness reduction at 45.
- The five-condition waiver's premium runs for five years, and a claim inside that window lets Star recover the remaining instalments from the payout.
- Limitless Care pays one claim with no sum insured limit, but after that claim the sum insured resets to zero for the rest of that policy year.
- Room Rent Modification, if applied to cut the premium, steps you down to a single private A/C room, a shared room or a general ward, and can only be reversed at the first renewal. A room cap cuts the bill proportionately, except medicines, implants and tests.
- Smart Network cuts the premium by up to 15% but adds a 15% co-payment for treatment outside its hospital list, except after an accident.
Care Supreme
- Consumables are not covered unless you buy the paid consumables add-on, which pays the 68 listed items; its wider version, covering Lists I to IV, comes only with the separate Care Advanced add-on policy. Read why a settled claim still leaves a bill.
- The 500% bonus is the paid Cumulative Bonus Super add-on, and everything accrued under it is forfeited if you drop it at a renewal.
- Instant Cover starts cover for its four named conditions on day 31, only on your first policy with Care Health, and cannot be combined with the option that shortens the pre-existing wait.
- Unlimited Care has to be taken at inception and held for five straight years, and ends permanently once its one claim is made.
- Smart Select and True Connect cut the premium by adding co-payments of 20% and 10% in named situations, and Room Rent Modification caps the room at a single private AC or twin sharing room.
- There is no maternity benefit and no add-on for one.
Which plan should you choose?
For most buyers, Care Supreme: it comes from the insurer with the better claim record, its built-in bonus survives a claim, and it goes to ₹6 crore. Super Star is the better choice for a narrower group, mainly couples planning a child and young buyers who expect to stay claim-free for years.
Choose Care Supreme if you want the insurer with the stronger claim record, a built-in bonus that a claim cannot reduce, or more than ₹1 crore of defined cover.
Choose Super Star if you want maternity and newborn cover on the same policy, want renewals priced at your entry age until your first claim, or want a bonus with no ceiling inside the plan.
