Aditya Birla Activ One VYTL

The Activ One variant built for people who already have a chronic condition. Chronic Care is standard here rather than an add-on: both the pre-existing and the initial waiting period are waived from day one for seven named conditions, and cashless outpatient management of those conditions comes with it. Consumables and the annual health check-up are built in, there is no room rent cap and no co-payment, and pre-hospitalisation runs 90 days. The trade-off is a smaller bonus – 50% a year to a 100% ceiling, against 100% to 500% on MAX.

03Add-ons

Activ One VYTL add-ons you can buy with it

Each of these costs extra and each has its own conditions. Some are genuinely worth it; several exist to patch a gap in the base plan. Ask what each one adds before it goes on your quote.

Chronic Care Restriction (this removes your day-one chronic cover)
A negative rider, unique to VYTL. Take it and the listed chronic conditions lose their day-one in-patient cover: claims for them become payable only after the 3-year pre-existing waiting period has run. It can only be bought at the inception of your first policy, and it exists to lower the premium. If a VYTL quote looks unusually cheap for someone with a declared chronic condition, this is the first thing to check.
Reduction in Pre-Existing Disease waiting period
Cuts the 3-year pre-existing wait to 2 years or 1 year for conditions outside the chronic list. It can only be chosen when you first take the policy.
Reduction in Specific Disease waiting period
Cuts the 2-year named-illness wait to 1 year, again only at the inception of your first policy.
Critical Illness Cover
A lump sum of ₹10, 15, 20 or 25 lakh on diagnosis of one of 20 listed critical illnesses, after a 60-day initial wait and a 15-day survival period.
Personal Accident Cover
₹10, 15, 20, 25 or 50 lakh for accidental death and permanent total or partial disability.
Compassionate Visit
Up to ₹50,000 towards two-way economy travel for one immediate family member if an admission runs beyond 10 days. Reimbursement only, once a policy year.
Second Medical Opinion and cancer screening
A second opinion from a network practitioner on a listed major illness, plus ₹10,000 per member per year of annual screening for someone already diagnosed with cancer.
Room Rent Type Options (this reduces your cover)
Restrict yourself to a single private room or shared accommodation and the premium falls. It puts back the room cap the base plan does not have.
Per Claim Deductible (this reduces your cover)
You pay ₹15,000 or ₹25,000 on every single claim in exchange for a lower premium. It applies per claim, not once a year.
Preferred Provider Network (PPN) Discount (this reduces your cover)
A flat 10% off the premium in exchange for treating within the insurer's preferred hospital list.

Activ One VYTL discounts you can ask for

Published discounts on this plan. Most are applied at quote stage rather than offered, so it is worth naming the ones you qualify for. Every figure is a ceiling, not a promise - what you actually get depends on the case.

05Waiting periods

Activ One VYTL waiting periods: when each part of the cover starts

Waiting periods run from the day cover began, not from the day you fall ill, and they run in parallel rather than one after another.

Initial Waiting Period30 days – waived for the seven listed chronic conditions
Specific Illness24 months
Pre-Existing Disease3 years – waived for the seven listed chronic conditions
Critical Illness rider (signs or symptoms)60 days, plus a 15-day survival period

The named illnesses that wait 24 months

Taken from the Activ One VYTL policy wording, section D.1.2. These wait 24 months from the start of your first Activ One policy. An accident is covered from day one. If the same condition is also pre-existing, the longer 3-year clock applies instead – except for the seven chronic conditions covered from day one under Chronic Care. Indicative list – the wording carries the full set.

Indicative listFrom the policy wording. Your own document governs.

06Exclusions

Activ One VYTL exclusions: what the plan will not pay for

Every policy carries exclusions, and they are the clauses people read for the first time at claim stage. These are the ones worth knowing before you buy.

Not coveredIndicative, not exhaustive. Your policy wording is the contract.
01Maternity and childbirth, other than an ectopic pregnancy VYTL has no maternity cover and no maternity option
02An admission arranged mainly for tests and evaluation, with no treatment following, and diagnostic charges unrelated to the condition being treated
03Custodial care and hospice care help with daily living or end-of-life support rather than active treatment
04Bariatric surgery that does not meet the policy's BMI and co-morbidity conditions, and change-of-gender treatment
05Cosmetic or plastic surgery, unless it rebuilds you after an accident, burn or cancer
06Treatment needed because you took part in a hazardous or adventure sport as a professional
07Treatment by a hospital or practitioner the insurer has named as excluded on its website – only stabilisation costs are paid in a life-threatening case
07The honest bit

Where Activ One VYTL falls short

No plan is right for everyone, and a page that only lists strengths is not much use to you. These are the gaps we would raise on a call before recommending it.

Worth knowing before you buyNone of these are dealbreakers on their own. They are the trade-offs this plan asks you to accept.
01There is an optional rider that takes the day-one chronic cover away. Chronic Care Restriction removes day-one in-patient cover for the listed conditions and pushes them back behind the 3-year pre-existing wait, in exchange for a lower premium. It can only be bought at inception, and it turns the plan's main selling point off. Read your policy schedule before you sign.
02The bonus is half what MAX gives. Super Credit adds 50% a year and stops at 100% of the base cover, where MAX adds 100% a year and runs to 500%.
03Super Reload does not apply to the very first claim in the life of the policy. The NXT variant is the only Activ One where it does.
04Declaring a chronic condition means a loaded premium set by a grid, rising with the number of conditions you declare – and once a condition is covered you cannot remove it at a later renewal to bring the premium back down.
05Cancer Booster, durable medical equipment cover and all the international benefits are not available on VYTL, and there is no maternity cover anywhere in the Activ One range.
08FAQs

Activ One VYTL questions, answered

What is the Chronic Care Restriction rider, and should I worry about it?

It is an optional cover that works against you, and it exists only on VYTL. If it is on your schedule, the seven chronic conditions that VYTL normally covers from day one lose that treatment: claims for them become payable only after the full 3-year pre-existing waiting period. It is sold as a way to reduce the premium and it can only be chosen when you first buy. If someone has quoted you a cheap VYTL premium and you have a declared chronic condition, this is the first line to check on the schedule.

Which chronic conditions does VYTL cover from day one?

Seven: diabetes, hypertension, asthma, high cholesterol, COPD, obesity, and coronary artery disease where a PTCA was done more than a year ago. For those, both the initial 30-day wait and the 3-year pre-existing wait are waived. You have to declare them and the insurer has to accept them, and the premium is loaded according to how many you declare.

How does VYTL's bonus compare with the other Activ One variants?

It is the smaller one. Super Credit on VYTL adds 50% of your base sum insured a year and stops once accumulated credit equals 100% of the base cover. On MAX and MAX+ the same benefit adds 100% a year and runs to 500%. That is the price you pay for the day-one chronic cover, so the comparison is really chronic cover now versus a faster-growing sum insured later.

How many times can the cover be restored?

An unlimited number of times within a policy year, for the same illness as well as an unrelated one. The exception is the very first claim in the life of the policy, which the reload does not pay on. From the second claim onwards it refills up to your base sum insured each time.

Are consumables and the health check-up included?

Both are built into VYTL. Claim Protect settles every non-payable item across all four lists of the policy annexure on an admissible claim, and a cashless health check-up is available once a policy year for anyone aged 18 or over. On the NXT variant you would pay separately for each.

What are the waiting periods?

30 days for any illness other than an accident, 24 months for a named list of conditions and procedures, and 3 years for pre-existing disease. The 30-day and 3-year clocks do not apply to the seven chronic conditions covered under Chronic Care. Both the 24-month and 3-year clocks can also be shortened for extra premium, but only at the inception of your first policy.
