Aditya Birla Activ One – MAX

The workhorse variant of Activ One. Super Credit adds 100% of your base sum insured every year regardless of whether you claimed, accumulating to 500% of the base cover or ₹3 crore. Super Reload then refills the base cover an unlimited number of times within a year. Consumables and the annual health check-up are built in, there is no room rent cap, no co-payment and no sub-limits, and pre-hospitalisation runs a longer-than-usual 90 days.

What Activ One – MAX covers

03Add-ons

Activ One – MAX add-ons you can buy with it

Each of these costs extra and each has its own conditions. Some are genuinely worth it; several exist to patch a gap in the base plan. Ask what each one adds before it goes on your quote.

Chronic Care (Day 1 in-patient hospitalisation)
Waives both the pre-existing and the initial waiting period for seven named chronic conditions – diabetes, hypertension, asthma, high cholesterol, COPD, obesity and coronary artery disease with a PTCA done more than a year ago. It is built into the VYTL variant but has to be bought on MAX.
Chronic Management Program (OPD)
Cashless consultations and diagnostic tests for those same seven chronic conditions, for anyone aged 18 or over.
Reduction in Pre-Existing Disease waiting period
Cuts the 3-year pre-existing wait to 2 years or 1 year. It can only be chosen when you first take the policy.
Reduction in Specific Disease waiting period
Cuts the 2-year named-illness wait to 1 year, again only at the inception of your first policy.
Cancer Booster
An extra sum insured of up to 100% of the base cover for cancer of specified severity, including its pre- and post-hospitalisation and day-care costs.
Durable Medical Equipment Cover
Buying or renting a ventilator, wheelchair, prosthetic device, suction machine, commode chair, infusion pump, oxygen concentrator or CPM device after knee replacement, up to a combined ₹5 lakh or your sum insured, whichever is lower.
Critical Illness Cover
A lump sum of ₹10, 15, 20 or 25 lakh on diagnosis of one of 20 listed critical illnesses, after a 60-day initial wait and a 15-day survival period.
Personal Accident Cover
₹10, 15, 20, 25 or 50 lakh for accidental death and permanent total or partial disability.
Compassionate Visit and Second Medical Opinion
Up to ₹50,000 of two-way travel for a family member if an admission runs beyond 10 days, plus a second opinion from a network practitioner on a listed major illness.
Annual Screening for cancer patients
₹10,000 per member per policy year of screening for someone already diagnosed with cancer.
Room Rent Type Options (this reduces your cover)
Restrict yourself to a single private room or shared accommodation and the premium falls. It puts back the room cap the base plan does not have.
Per Claim Deductible (this reduces your cover)
You pay ₹15,000 or ₹25,000 on every single claim in exchange for a lower premium. Note that this applies per claim, not once a year.
Preferred Provider Network (PPN) Discount (this reduces your cover)
A flat 10% off the premium in exchange for treating within the insurer's preferred hospital list.

Activ One – MAX discounts you can ask for

Published discounts on this plan. Most are applied at quote stage rather than offered, so it is worth naming the ones you qualify for. Every figure is a ceiling, not a promise - what you actually get depends on the case.

05Waiting periods

Activ One – MAX waiting periods: when each part of the cover starts

Waiting periods run from the day cover began, not from the day you fall ill, and they run in parallel rather than one after another.

Initial Waiting Period30 days
Specific Illness24 months
Pre-Existing Disease3 years – reducible to 2 years or 1 year, or waived for seven chronic conditions if you add Chronic Care
Critical Illness rider (signs or symptoms)60 days, plus a 15-day survival period

The named illnesses that wait 24 months

Taken from the Activ One MAX policy wording, section D.1.2. These wait 24 months from the start of your first Activ One policy. An accident is covered from day one. If the same condition is also pre-existing, the longer 3-year clock applies instead. Indicative list – the wording carries the full set.

Indicative listFrom the policy wording. Your own document governs.
01Cataract, glaucoma and refractive error correction
02Sinusitis, rhinitis, tonsillitis, deviated nasal septum, otitis media and mastoiditis
03Fibroids, PCOD, endometriosis, uterine prolapse, dysfunctional uterine bleeding and breast lumps that are not malignant
04Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, osteoporosis, slipped disc, ligament or meniscus tears and joint replacement
05Gallstones, cholecystitis, pancreatitis, piles, fissure, fistula, GERD, cirrhosis and chronic appendicitis
06Stones in the kidney, ureter or bladder, enlarged prostate, hernia, hydrocele and varicocele
07Benign growths anywhere in the body swellings, tumours, cysts, nodules, polyps and lumps
08Varicose veins and varicose ulcers, skin tumours that are not malignant, and all skin diseases
06Exclusions

Activ One – MAX exclusions: what the plan will not pay for

Every policy carries exclusions, and they are the clauses people read for the first time at claim stage. These are the ones worth knowing before you buy.

Not coveredIndicative, not exhaustive. Your policy wording is the contract.
01Maternity and childbirth, other than an ectopic pregnancy MAX has no maternity cover and no maternity option
02An admission arranged mainly for tests and evaluation, with no treatment following, and diagnostic charges unrelated to the condition being treated
03Custodial care and hospice care help with daily living or end-of-life support rather than active treatment
04Bariatric surgery that does not meet the policy's BMI and co-morbidity conditions, and change-of-gender treatment
05Cosmetic or plastic surgery, unless it rebuilds you after an accident, burn or cancer
06Treatment needed because you took part in a hazardous or adventure sport as a professional
07Treatment by a hospital or practitioner the insurer has named as excluded on its website – only stabilisation costs are paid in a life-threatening case
07The honest bit

Where Activ One – MAX falls short

No plan is right for everyone, and a page that only lists strengths is not much use to you. These are the gaps we would raise on a call before recommending it.

Worth knowing before you buyNone of these are dealbreakers on their own. They are the trade-offs this plan asks you to accept.
01Super Reload does not apply to the very first claim in the life of the policy. That is written into the wording, and it is the one difference between MAX and the NXT variant, where the reload works from claim one because of the 2X day-one cover.
02There is no maternity cover and no maternity option anywhere in the Activ One range.
03Day-one cover for chronic conditions is a paid add-on on MAX. It is built into the VYTL variant, so a buyer with diabetes or hypertension should price both before choosing.
04The per-claim deductible option, if a quote has it switched on, bites on every single claim rather than once a year. A ₹25,000 deductible across three admissions is ₹75,000 out of your own pocket.
05Global cover, specified-illness treatment abroad and the geographical extension to the USA and Canada are not available on MAX – those sit on the VIP and VIP+ variants.
08FAQs

Activ One – MAX questions, answered

What is the difference between Activ One MAX, NXT, VYTL, VIP and SAVR?

They are variants of one filing, not separate products – every Activ One prospectus carries the same UIN, ADIHLIP24097V012324, and lists all seven. What changes between them is the sum insured band, how Super Credit accrues and which optional benefits are switched on. The policy wording, waiting periods and exclusions are common to all of them, so this page applies whichever variant you are quoted.

Is Super Credit a no-claim bonus?

No, and the difference matters. The wording adds a fixed percentage of your base sum insured each year 'irrespective of any claims in previous Policy Year', so long as you renew without a break. On MAX that is 100% of the base cover a year, accumulating to 500% of base or ₹3 crore, whichever is reached first. A claim does not reset it and does not stop it growing.

How many times can the cover be restored?

An unlimited number of times within a policy year, and the refill applies to the same illness as well as an unrelated one. The one restriction is that it does not pay on the very first claim in the life of the policy. From the second claim onwards it refills up to your base sum insured each time.

How long is pre-hospitalisation cover?

90 days before admission and 180 days after discharge, both up to the sum insured. The 90-day pre-hospitalisation window is longer than the 60 days most plans give, which helps when a diagnosis involves several rounds of scans and consultations before you are admitted.

Are consumables covered?

Yes, built in. Claim Protect settles the non-payable items across all four lists of the policy annexure on any admissible claim, so gloves, PPE, syringes and administrative charges are paid by the insurer rather than deducted. On the NXT variant the same benefit has to be bought separately.

What are the waiting periods?

30 days for any illness other than an accident, 24 months for a named list of conditions and procedures, and 3 years for pre-existing disease. Both the 24-month and 3-year clocks can be shortened for extra premium, but only at the inception of your first policy – not at a renewal and not on a port.

Does MAX cover diabetes or blood pressure from day one?

Only if you add the Chronic Care option. With it, the pre-existing and initial waiting periods are both waived for seven named conditions – diabetes, hypertension, asthma, high cholesterol, COPD, obesity and coronary artery disease with a PTCA done over a year ago. Without it, those conditions sit behind the 3-year pre-existing wait like anything else.
