Star Health network hospitals: the list, city counts and how to check one

Star Health's cashless network runs to 15,000+ hospitals, the figure on our Star plan pages (nyvo policy database, October 2026). Your own city matters more than that total: when we read Star's city pages on 24 October 2026, they listed 525 hospitals in Hyderabad and 285 in Mumbai, with Thane and Navi Mumbai counted separately.

How many Star Health network hospitals are there in my city?

Star publishes a separate page for every city it covers (we counted 452 on its network page on 24 October 2026), and each one prints how many hospitals it lists. These are 20 big cities, sorted by Star's own count that day.

Star files each hospital under the city name in its own records, so neighbouring areas get their own pages. Navi Mumbai (74) and "Greater Mumbai M Corp" (13) aren't in Mumbai's 285, Noida (41) and Gurgaon (88) aren't in New Delhi's 350, and Kochi (14) and Ernakulam (20) are counted apart. If your town isn't in the table, it very likely has its own page on Star's site.

How do I check a hospital is cashless on my Star Health policy?

  1. 1Search the hospital by name on Star's hospital search with "Network Hospitals" selected. A city list tells you Star has hospitals near you; only a name search tells you the one you'd actually go to is on it.
  2. 2Run the same name under "Excluded Hospitals (Providers)" on that page. That list is the one place Star won't pay a normal claim, cashless or reimbursement.
  3. 3Call 1800-425-2255 with your policy number and the hospital's name, and ask whether it's active for cashless on your plan today. If your Super Star schedule shows Smart Network, ask whether the hospital is on that named network as well.
  4. 4Ask the hospital's insurance desk whether it's taking cashless for Star Health right now, for your treatment. Desks are sometimes behind on their own status, so if the desk and Star Health disagree, go by Star Health.
  5. 5For a planned admission, start the pre-authorisation before the day you're admitted and keep the approval reference. It's what you quote if anything changes during the stay.

What's the difference between Star's network, agreed and excluded hospitals?

Star's search page keeps several lists side by side. "Network Hospitals" is the main cashless network. "Agreed Network Hospitals" and "Value Network Hospitals" are separate lists on the same page, and Star doesn't explain there what changes for you at each, so if a hospital you're planning around appears on only one of them, ask Star before you book.

One Star plan does put money on a named list. Super Star's optional Smart Network takes up to 15% off the premium, and treatment outside the named network then carries a 15% co-payment, except after an accident. Star doesn't offer it in Zone C. On a ₹3 lakh admissible claim outside that network, ₹45,000 would be yours.

"Excluded Hospitals (Providers)" is the list that can cost you most. Star Health Assure's policy wording carries the standard excluded-provider clause, Code-Excl 11: treatment at a hospital Star has excluded isn't payable, except that in a life-threatening situation or after an accident Star pays up to the point you're stabilised, not the whole claim. Star's search page puts the same rule the other way round: cashless can be had anywhere except an excluded hospital.

What happens at the hospital desk?

At a network hospital, the insurance desk sends the cashless request with your health card and ID. IRDAI's 2024 Master Circular on Health Insurance Business gives the insurer one hour to decide on a cashless request and three hours to give final approval once the hospital asks to discharge you. If final approval takes longer than three hours, any extra the hospital charges for the wait is the insurer's to bear, not yours.

Cashless isn't a zero bill. Co-pay, non-payable items and anything above your plan's limits are still yours at discharge. Our Star Health claim guide has the full steps and the documents, and if a request stalls, call Star's toll-free line, 1800-425-2255.

Hospital not in the network? Since January 2024, Cashless Everywhere lets you ask for cashless at a hospital outside the network too. Tell Star Health at least 48 hours before a planned admission; the hospital has to agree, and an excluded hospital is the exception. How cashless works in general is in our guide to cashless network hospitals.

Star Health network hospitals: questions people ask

Which cities have the most Star Health network hospitals?

Hyderabad, Pune and Chennai. Star's own city pages listed 525, 495 and 460 hospitals there when we read them on 24 October 2026. Mumbai showed 285, but Star files Thane (277) and Navi Mumbai (74) on pages of their own, so a family in the Mumbai region has more choice than that one number suggests.

Is there a Star Health network hospital list PDF?

No. We found no downloadable copy of Star's full network on its site on 24 October 2026. Star publishes the network as a search by hospital, city or state, with a separate page for each city, so look up the hospital you'd actually use there rather than trusting a list someone forwarded you.

What is Star Health's Smart Network option?

It's an optional discount on Super Star: up to 15% off the premium for agreeing to use a named hospital network. Treatment outside that network then carries a 15% co-payment, except after an accident, so on a ₹3 lakh admissible claim elsewhere you'd pay ₹45,000 yourself. Star doesn't offer it in Zone C.

Which number do I call to check a Star Health network hospital?

1800-425-2255, Star's toll-free number. Star's Young Star policy wording also lists a 24-hour helpline, 044 6900 6900, and 044 4002 0888 for senior citizens. Have the policy number and the hospital's name ready, and ask whether that hospital is active for cashless on your plan today.
