HDFC ERGO network hospitals: how to find a cashless hospital near you

HDFC ERGO's cashless network runs to about 16,000 hospitals, the figure on our HDFC ERGO plan pages (nyvo policy database, October 2026) and on HDFC ERGO's own locator. It also publishes an excluded-hospitals PDF, under a 30 September 2026 file name, that named 1,929 hospitals where HDFC ERGO won't pay a normal claim.

How do I find an HDFC ERGO hospital in my city?

We couldn't get city-wise counts from HDFC ERGO's site, so this page doesn't print any. Use HDFC ERGO's own cashless hospital locator and search for the hospital you'd actually go to. A national count tells you the network is wide; only a name search tells you your hospital is on it.

Check more than the famous hospital in town. In an emergency the ambulance goes to the nearest one, so that's the one whose status you'll want to know already.

How do I check a hospital is cashless on my HDFC ERGO policy?

  2. 2Search the same name, or your pin code, in the excluded-hospitals PDF.
  3. 3Call 022-6158-2020 with your policy number and ask whether that hospital is active for cashless on your plan today.
  4. 4Ask the hospital's insurance desk whether it's taking cashless for HDFC ERGO right now, for your treatment. Desks are sometimes behind on their own status, so if the desk and HDFC ERGO disagree, go by HDFC ERGO.
  5. 5For a planned admission, start the pre-authorisation before the day you're admitted and keep the approval reference. It's what you quote if anything changes during the stay.

Does HDFC ERGO have preferred or excluded hospitals?

Both lists exist. HDFC ERGO's locator has a "Preferred Hospital Network" tab beside the main cashless search, but the page doesn't say what changes for you there. None of the 27 HDFC ERGO plans we've reviewed ties a discount or a co-pay to it, so if a hospital you're counting on shows up on only one of the two lists, ask HDFC ERGO what that means for your plan before you book.

The excluded list is the one that can cost you. HDFC ERGO's PDF, published under a 30 September 2026 file name, named 1,929 hospitals when we read it on 24 October 2026, each with its city, state, pin code and the date the exclusion took effect. The PDF quotes the rule itself: treatment there isn't admissible, cashless or reimbursement, except that in a life-threatening situation or after an accident HDFC ERGO pays up to stabilisation, not the complete claim.

Everywhere else it's network or not. At a network hospital you go cashless. At a non-network one you can ask for cashless under Cashless Everywhere, or pay and claim it back on the same policy terms. The network also decides some outpatient extras: Optima Secure Plus's OPD add-on offers consultations with physicians from HDFC ERGO's network partners.

What happens at the hospital desk?

At a network hospital, the insurance desk sends the cashless request with your health card and ID. IRDAI's 2024 Master Circular on Health Insurance Business gives the insurer one hour to decide on a cashless request and three hours to give final approval once the hospital asks to discharge you. If final approval takes longer than three hours, any extra the hospital charges for the wait is the insurer's to bear, not yours.

Hospital not in the network? Since January 2024, Cashless Everywhere lets you ask for cashless at a hospital outside the network too. Tell HDFC ERGO at least 48 hours before a planned admission; the hospital has to agree, and an excluded hospital is the exception. The network itself is a search on HDFC ERGO's locator, so look up the hospital by name there rather than in a file someone saved.

What is HDFC ERGO's preferred hospital network?

It's a separate list on HDFC ERGO's locator, beside the main cashless search. The page doesn't say what changes for you there, and none of the 27 HDFC ERGO plans we've reviewed ties a discount or a co-pay to it. If a hospital you're counting on appears on only one of the two lists, ask HDFC ERGO before you book.

Will HDFC ERGO pay at an excluded hospital in an emergency?

Only up to stabilisation. HDFC ERGO's excluded-hospitals PDF quotes the rule: treatment at a listed hospital isn't admissible, but in a life-threatening situation or after an accident, expenses up to the stage of stabilisation are payable, not the complete claim. The list named 1,929 hospitals when we read it on 24 October 2026.

Which HDFC ERGO number do I call about a network hospital?

022-6158-2020, the number HDFC ERGO gives for claim and policy queries (hdfcergo.com, read 24 October 2026). Its locator page header also shows a separate "Call to Buy" number, which is for new policies, so don't use that one from a hospital desk. Have your policy number and the hospital's name ready.
