That is the cheapest of the three national labs we checked, Healthians, for a kidney function test in Bangalore, read July 2026. The dearest, Orange Health at ₹1,150, is more than three times as much. This is one test where the lab you pick really changes the bill.
A KFT, also called a renal function test, measures urea, creatinine, uric acid and electrolytes, usually around 12 parameters from one sample.

Three labs, one city, one week, and a much wider spread than most tests. Orange Health's price reflects its express 60-minute home collection, but the panel measured is the same one Healthians runs for ₹349. When a test's price varies this much, it is worth checking two or three labs before you book. Prices also differ by city and move over time.
Before you pay it
Most health insurance policies include an annual health check-up, and many cover a KFT within it, often bundled with a liver panel. It is a named benefit in the wording, usually delivered cashless at a listed diagnostic centre, and it is one of the least-claimed benefits in Indian health insurance.

Two things worth knowing
The wide price gap is service, not the test. A ₹1,150 KFT and a ₹349 KFT measure the same urea, creatinine and electrolytes. What the higher price buys is a faster home visit and quicker reports, not a better result. If speed does not matter to you, the cheaper option loses you nothing clinically.
The tax break is smaller than it sounds. Section 80D allows ₹5,000 a year for preventive health check-ups, and it sits inside your overall 80D limit rather than on top of it. Up to ₹5,000 a year for preventive health check-ups, which can be paid in cash. The catch is that this ₹5,000 sits within your overall Section 80D limit rather than being added to it, so it only helps if you are under the limit already.
Do I need to fast before a KFT test?
Usually a short fast is advised for the most accurate creatinine and urea readings, though it is not always required. Follow the instruction your lab gives when you book, and remember that whether you need the test is a decision for your doctor.
