Three labs, one city, one week. Prices differ between labs and between cities, and they move often. The spread is mostly service, not test: a home collection in 60 minutes costs more than a standard pickup, but the parameters measured are the same. What does not move much is the shape, a standard lipid profile sitting somewhere around ₹400 to ₹750.
Before you pay it
Most health insurance policies include an annual health check-up, and a lipid profile is almost always part of it. It is a named benefit in the wording, usually delivered cashless at a listed diagnostic centre, and it is one of the least-claimed benefits in Indian health insurance.
Terms vary. Some plans give an unconditional check-up every year from age 18. Several public-sector plans give one only after a few claim-free years. Check your policy schedule before you pay a lab. Two things worth knowing
A dearer panel is not a better one. The same lipid profile measures the same lipids whether you pay ₹399 or ₹727. What you are paying more for is speed and home collection, not accuracy or more information. Whether you need the test at all, and how to read it, is a medical question for your doctor, not a pricing one.
The tax break is smaller than it sounds. Section 80D allows ₹5,000 a year for preventive health check-ups, and it sits inside your overall 80D limit rather than on top of it. Up to ₹5,000 a year for preventive health check-ups, which can be paid in cash. The catch is that this ₹5,000 sits within your overall Section 80D limit rather than being added to it, so it only helps if you are under the limit already.
Do I need to fast before a lipid profile test?
Most labs ask for a 10 to 12 hour fast before a standard lipid profile, though some direct LDL tests do not require it. Follow the instruction your lab gives when you book. Whether and when to test is a decision for your doctor.
