NRI Health Insurance for Parents in India: 3 Reasons to Buy Early
1 min 5 sec · 2 September 2026 · nyvo
If you live outside India, three reasons to arrange your parents' cover sooner rather than later: hospitalisation risk generally rises with age, buying earlier starts the waiting periods earlier including the one for pre-existing conditions, and many policies add a no claim bonus that grows the cover over the years you hold it.
What this video says
- The video is for people working outside India whose parents live in India and may not have enough health cover.
- First reason to buy early: the risk of disease and hospitalisation rises with age.
- Second: buying early starts the waiting periods sooner; the video says a pre-existing disease has a 3-year waiting period, so buying now means it is covered 3 years from now (nyvo's current data: 3 years is the usual maximum; some plans shorten it for an extra premium, and cover depends on the condition being declared and accepted).
- The video's third reason is that the bonus keeps growing: it says ₹10 lakh of cover can become ₹40 lakh in 3 or 4 years (nyvo's current data: that pace needs a bonus of 100% of the base a year; a bonus of 50% a year capped at 100% stops at ₹20 lakh).
- A nyvo advisor can compare plans, coordinate with hospitals and family in India at claim time, and support you end to end.
Figures to check against today's data
The video was recorded on 2 September 2026. Where nyvo's current data states a figure differently, it is below.
| In the video | nyvo's current data |
|---|---|
| 0:34So, if you buy 10 lakhs today, in 3 or 4 years that cover will become 40 lakhs. | True only on plans that add 100% of the base every year: on a ₹10 lakh base, Optima Secure Plus is at ₹40 lakh in policy year 3, Activ One Max in year 4, and ReAssure 3.0 in year 4 if claim-free. A typical cumulative bonus of 50% a year capped at 100% (Care Supreme's, for example) stops at ₹20 lakh. |
