Best Health Insurance Plans in India 2026 | Top 4 Plans + How to Choose
4 min 6 sec · 26 August 2026 · nyvo
Choosing a health plan is not about the premium or the sum insured. This video works through the features that decide what you actually get paid, then compares four plans on them: HDFC ERGO Optima Secure Plus, Care Ultimate, Niva Bupa ReAssure 3.0 and Aditya Birla Activ One Max.
What this video says
- The video says India has more than 30 health insurers selling over 300 plans, and that choosing one starts with the insurer and then the policy features (nyvo's current data: 31 health insurers; nyvo does not publish a count of plans).
- For the insurer, the video says to check that the claim settlement ratio is above 90%, that there are network hospitals in your area for cashless claims, and how many complaints the company draws (nyvo's current data: nyvo's plan pages recommend a claim settlement ratio above 95%).
- For the policy, the video says to look for no room rent limit, no sub-limits on modern treatments or surgery, a healthy no claim bonus, no co-payment, cover for non-medical consumables (which it puts at 10% to 15% of a bill) and an annual health check-up (nyvo's current data: consumables are roughly 5% to 15% of a bill, by industry estimates).
- The video says most top plans grow ₹10 lakh of cover to ₹60 lakh in 5 years, and some offer a bonus that keeps growing without limit (nyvo's current data: that pace needs a bonus of 100% of the base a year; a bonus of 50% a year capped at 100%, as on Care Supreme, stops at ₹20 lakh).
- The video's first pick, HDFC ERGO Optima Secure Plus, has no limits and an infinite bonus that it says takes ₹10 lakh to ₹1 crore in 10 years and ₹2 crore in 20 years (nyvo's current data: it has no room-rent cap or disease sub-limits, though some benefits carry their own limits, such as air ambulance up to ₹5 lakh a year; on the plan's rules, ₹10 lakh gives ₹1.1 crore of cover in policy year 10).
- The video's second pick is Care Ultimate, which it says has an infinite bonus, no limits and a premium freeze that fixes the premium at entry age (correction: on Care Ultimate the uncapped Infinity Bonus and Premium Freeze are paid options, and the freeze holds only the base premium until the first paid claim; nyvo's own 2026 picks list Care Supreme, not Care Ultimate).
- The video's other picks are Niva Bupa ReAssure 3.0, for its unlimited cover option, and Aditya Birla Activ One Max, where it says ₹10 lakh grows to ₹60 lakh in 5 years, with a cap on cover but no sub-limits and consumables included.
- It ends by saying the right advisor matters most, both to choose between these plans and to help at claim time, and points viewers to nyvo's experts.
Figures to check against today's data
The video was recorded on 26 August 2026. Where nyvo's current data states a figure differently, it is below.
| In the video | nyvo's current data |
|---|---|
| 0:13There are over 30 plus insurance company with 300 plus plans. | nyvo's tables cover 31 health insurers, which fits '30 plus'. A count of 300+ plans is not in nyvo's published data. |
| 0:24the claim settlement ratio of the company should be greater than 90%. | nyvo's plan pages recommend a claim settlement ratio above 95%. All four insurers in this video clear 90% on nyvo's data: HDFC ERGO 97.8%, Aditya Birla 96.5%, Care Health 96.0%, Niva Bupa 93.3% (IRDAI data, three-year weighted average, latest available as of March 2026). |
| 1:17Most of the top plans today, even if you buy 10 lakhs of insurance, will grow to 60 lakhs of insurance in 5 years. | Plan by plan on a ₹10 lakh base: Optima Secure Plus is at ₹60 lakh in policy year 5 and ₹70 lakh in year 6; Activ One Max reaches ₹60 lakh in year 6 and stops (100% a year, capped at 500%); ReAssure 3.0 Black reaches ₹60 lakh in year 6 only if every year is claim-free; Care Supreme's base bonus stops at ₹20 lakh (50% a year to 100%), and so does Care Ultimate's unless you pay for Infinity Bonus. |
| 1:52Hospital charges you for things like PPE kit, gloves, etc. And that forms 10 to 15% part of your bill. | Roughly 5% to 15% of a hospital bill (industry estimates, as nyvo words it). |
| 2:42So, if you buy 10 lakh of policy, in 10 years that will grow to 1 crore and in 20 years it will grow to 2 crore without any cap. | On the plan's rules (Secure Benefit doubles the base from day one, Infinite Benefit adds 100% of the base every year with no cap) ₹10 lakh gives ₹1.1 crore of cover in policy year 10, and about ₹2.1 crore in year 20 by the same arithmetic. The video understates it slightly. |
| 2:49Second, there is a Care Ultimate Plan. Again, this has a infinite bonus feature, no kind of limits, and it also has a premium freeze option | On Ultimate Care, Infinity Bonus and Premium Freeze are paid options, not part of the base plan. The base bonus is 50% a year to a 100% ceiling, consumables need the paid Claim Shield, and Premium Freeze holds the base premium at entry age only until the first paid claim. |
| 2:49Second, there is a Care Ultimate Plan. | nyvo's four published picks for 2026 are HDFC ERGO Optima Secure Plus, Aditya Birla Activ One Max, Care Supreme and Niva Bupa ReAssure 3.0 Black. Care Ultimate is not one of them. |
| 3:14And also this policy don't have any kind of limit. | Only the Black variant of ReAssure 3.0 has no room-category cap and no room co-payment; Classic, Select and Elite cap the room type. |
