ACKO Platinum (ACKO Health III)

A plan inside ACKO's filed health product, ACKO Health III (UIN ACKHLIP27040V012627), not a product with its own UIN. It pays room rent and ICU at actual cost with no cap, pays consumables and other non-payable items, waives the 30-day wait and most specified-illness waits, and covers 60 days before and 180 days after an admission. It has no restoration, no bonus and no maternity cover, and underwriting sets the pre-existing disease wait.

What Platinum (ACKO Health III) covers

These are the terms that decide what you are actually paid when you claim. Room rent, co-pay and restoration do more to shape a settlement than the sum insured does, and they are read from ACKO's own policy wording.

What this plan does
03Waiting periods

Platinum (ACKO Health III) waiting periods: when each part of the cover starts

Waiting periods run from the day cover began, not from the day you fall ill, and they run in parallel rather than one after another.

Initial Waiting PeriodNone: waived under the Initial 30 Days Waiting Period Waiver
Specific IllnessNone, except cataract and arthropathies (excluding infectious causes) for anyone insured above 50, who wait the months printed on the schedule
Pre-Existing DiseaseSet at underwriting and printed on your policy schedule
Named AilmentAny named-ailment wait or exclusion on your schedule overrides the standard waits

The named illnesses that wait only for anyone insured above 50

Platinum waives the specified-illness waits for everyone, except these two for insured persons above 50, who wait the number of months printed on the schedule. The rest of the specified list, from hernia to kidney stones, carries no wait on Platinum unless the condition is pre-existing. An accident is not held to this wait.

Indicative listFrom the policy wording. Your own document governs.
01Cataract
02Arthropathies (joint disease), unless infectious in origin
04Exclusions

Platinum (ACKO Health III) exclusions: what the plan will not pay for

Every policy carries exclusions, and they are the clauses people read for the first time at claim stage. These are the ones worth knowing before you buy.

Not coveredIndicative, not exhaustive. Your policy wording is the contract.
01Maternity: childbirth including complicated delivery and C-section, miscarriage other than after an accident, and medical termination of pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancy is the exception
02Treatment outside India, unless your schedule carries Worldwide In-Patient Hospitalization
03Out-patient consultations, tests and pharmacy, unless an OPD cover is on your schedule or they are pre and post hospitalisation costs of an admitted claim
04Oral, oropharynx and respiratory cancer in a tobacco user
05Sterility and infertility treatment, including IVF and other assisted reproduction, and gestational surrogacy
06An admission arranged mainly for tests or evaluation
07Rest cure, rehabilitation, respite and custodial care
08Cosmetic or plastic surgery, unless it reconstructs after an accident, burn or cancer, or removes an immediate health risk
09Sleep disorders such as sleep apnoea and snoring, and hormonal therapies
10Treatment at a provider ACKO has excluded, beyond stabilisation after a life-threatening emergency or accident
05The honest bit

Where Platinum (ACKO Health III) falls short

No plan is right for everyone, and a page that only lists strengths is not much use to you. These are the gaps we would raise on a call before recommending it.

Worth knowing before you buyNone of these are dealbreakers on their own. They are the trade-offs this plan asks you to accept.
01There is no restoration benefit. The Platinum wording has no restore section, and once a year's claims use up the sum insured, cover for that person ends until renewal.
02There is no bonus either. Nothing in the Platinum wording adds cover for a claim-free year. Its definition of total sum insured names an Inflation Protect Sum Insured without setting the benefit out, so check your schedule: without an amount there, the cover does not grow.
03The pre-existing disease wait is not fixed. Underwriting sets it and prints it on your schedule, and it can also add a named-ailment exclusion, which overrides the standard waits, or a sub-limit on a condition you declare. Ask for those terms in writing before you pay.
04Maternity is excluded. Childbirth, miscarriage other than after an accident, and medical termination are all out, with ectopic pregnancy the only exception, and no benefit listed in the ACKO Health III prospectus adds it back.
05The wording carries an individual deductible clause. If your schedule shows a deductible, ACKO pays only the part of each member's admissible claims in the year above it. Check the schedule for an amount before you buy.
06A tobacco user's oral, oropharynx and respiratory cancers are permanently excluded. If you use tobacco, ask ACKO in writing how that applies to you before you buy.
07ACKO's own pages disagree on the filing. The downloads page carries the Platinum wording under ACKO Health III (UIN ACKHLIP27040V012627), while the disclaimer page says Platinum is sold under ACKO Health II (UIN ACKHLIP26036V012526). Read the UIN on your schedule and the wording filed under it.
08Complaints run above our limit. ACKO General's 16.8 complaints per 10,000 claims is above the 10 we recommend, though its 95.4% claim settlement ratio meets our 93% bar.
06FAQs

Platinum (ACKO Health III) questions, answered

Is ACKO Platinum a separate health insurance policy?

No. Platinum is a plan inside ACKO's filed health product, not a product with its own UIN. ACKO's downloads page carries the Platinum wording as "ACKO Health III (Platinum)", printed with ACKO Health III's UIN, ACKHLIP27040V012627. ACKO's disclaimer page names ACKO Health II instead, so read the product name and UIN printed on your own schedule.

What happened to the Acko Personal Health Policy?

ACKO's disclaimer page says ACKO has replaced the Acko Personal Health Policy (UIN ACKHLIP25035V022425) with a new retail health product, ACKO Health II, and ACKO's downloads page now carries the Platinum wording under ACKO Health III. This page therefore reviews Platinum from that wording. If you already hold a Personal Health Policy, your own schedule and the wording filed under its UIN still set your cover.

Does ACKO Platinum have a room rent limit or a co-payment?

Neither. The Platinum wording says ACKO covers actual room rent and ICU charges without any capping, and it has no co-payment clause. Underwriting can still add a sub-limit or an exclusion for a condition you declare, and it would be printed on your schedule, so read the schedule before you rely on the defaults.

What are ACKO Platinum's waiting periods?

The 30-day initial wait is waived. The specified-illness waits are waived too, except cataract and arthropathies (excluding infectious causes) for anyone insured above 50, who wait the months on the schedule. The pre-existing disease wait is set at underwriting and printed on your schedule, and any named-ailment wait on the schedule overrides the standard ones. Ask for those numbers in writing before you buy.

Are consumables covered?

Yes. Consumables are listed among the in-patient expenses, and the Waiver of Non-payable Medical Expenses is built into the Platinum wording. Items on ACKO's non-payable list are paid when they are medically necessary and the in-patient, day care or domiciliary claim is admitted, within the base sum insured.

Does ACKO Platinum have restoration or a no-claim bonus?

Neither appears in the Platinum wording. Once a year's claims use up the sum insured, cover for that person ends until renewal. The wording's definition of total sum insured names an Inflation Protect Sum Insured without setting the benefit out, so check your schedule for an amount; without one, the cover does not grow from year to year.

Is there a deductible on ACKO Platinum?

Check your schedule. The Platinum wording includes an individual deductible clause: where a deductible applies, ACKO pays only the part of each member's admissible claims in a policy year above it, and the deductible does not reduce the sum insured. The wording does not fix an amount, so ask ACKO to confirm in writing whether your quote carries one.

Does ACKO Platinum cover maternity?

No. The wording excludes childbirth, including complicated delivery and C-section, miscarriage other than after an accident, and medical termination of pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancy is the one exception. No benefit listed in the ACKO Health III prospectus adds maternity cover.

Can I buy ACKO Platinum for my parents?

Possibly. The ACKO Health III prospectus allows parents and parents-in-law, from 91 days of age with no maximum entry age and no cover-ceasing age. It also says not every plan is available at all times, so confirm that Platinum is offered for your parents on the quote. For anyone insured above 50, cataract and non-infectious arthropathies still carry a wait.
