HbA1c Test Price in India: From ₹399

An HbA1c (glycated haemoglobin) test costs from ₹399 to ₹490 across three national labs (Bangalore, July 2026). Before you pay, check whether your health policy's free annual check-up already covers it.

An HbA1c test costs between ₹399 and ₹490 across Redcliffe, Healthians and Orange Health, read in Bangalore in July 2026. The spread is narrow for a standard, high-volume test.
Before paying, check your policy. Most health insurance plans include an annual health check-up, and many cover an HbA1c within it, especially on plans aimed at people managing diabetes.
An HbA1c measures your average blood sugar over the past two to three months from a single sample, and needs no fasting, unlike a fasting glucose test.
Section 80D allows ₹5,000 a year for preventive health check-ups, but it sits inside your existing 80D limit rather than on top of it.

What does an HbA1c test cost in India?

₹399

That is the cheapest of the three national labs we checked, Redcliffe Labs, for an HbA1c in Bangalore, read July 2026. The dearest, Orange Health, is ₹490. The whole range is narrow, because HbA1c is a standard, high-volume test.

The three labs, as listed

LabPrice (Bangalore)
Redcliffe Labs₹399
Healthians₹410
Orange Health Labs₹490

Three labs, one city, one week, and under ₹100 between the cheapest and dearest. The higher price buys faster home collection, not a different or more accurate test. Prices differ by city and move over time, so treat these as the order of magnitude.

Before you pay it

Most health insurance policies include an annual health check-up, and many cover an HbA1c within it, particularly plans designed for people managing diabetes. It is a named benefit in the wording, usually delivered cashless at a listed diagnostic centre, and it is one of the least-claimed benefits in Indian health insurance.

Check your policy schedule before you pay a lab. Our guide to which plans pay for your check-up sets out the terms plan by plan, and health insurance for diabetics covers plans built around this exact need.

Two things worth knowing

HbA1c and fasting sugar are not the same test. An HbA1c shows your average sugar over months and needs no fasting; a fasting glucose test shows a single morning reading and does need a fast. Doctors often use them together. Which you need, and how to read the result, is a medical decision, not a pricing one.

The tax break is smaller than it sounds. Section 80D allows ₹5,000 a year for preventive health check-ups, and it sits inside your overall 80D limit rather than on top of it. If you are already claiming the full limit on premiums, the check-up adds nothing. The mechanics are in our guide to Section 80D deductions.

FAQs

How much does an HbA1c test cost in India?

Between ₹399 and ₹490 across Redcliffe, Healthians and Orange Health, read in Bangalore in July 2026. The range is narrow because HbA1c is a standard, high-volume test. Prices differ by lab and city and change often.

Is an HbA1c test covered by health insurance?

Often, as part of the annual health check-up rather than as a claim. Most health policies include a periodic check-up delivered cashless at a listed diagnostic centre, and many cover an HbA1c, especially plans aimed at people with diabetes. It does not reduce your sum insured. Check your own policy schedule.

What is the difference between HbA1c and a blood sugar test?

An HbA1c measures your average blood glucose over the past two to three months and needs no fasting. A fasting blood sugar test measures a single reading after an overnight fast. They answer different questions and doctors often use both. Which you need is a decision for your doctor.

Can I claim an HbA1c test under 80D?

Up to ₹5,000 a year for preventive health check-ups, which can be paid in cash. The catch is that this ₹5,000 sits within your overall Section 80D limit rather than being added to it, so it only helps if you are under the limit already.

Do I need to fast before an HbA1c test?

No. An HbA1c does not require fasting and can be done at any time of day. That is one of its advantages over a fasting glucose test. If it is bundled with a fasting sugar test, follow the fasting instruction for that.
