Claim settlement and complaint figures are IRDAI-published and held centrally by NYVO, not taken from the insurer's marketing.
What Health Assurance covers
These are the terms that decide what you are actually paid when you claim. Room rent, co-pay and restoration do more to shape a settlement than the sum insured does, and they are read from Niva Bupa's own policy wording.
| Feature | This plan | What good looks like |
|---|---|---|
| What kind of plan this is | Fixed benefit, not indemnity. It pays an agreed amount on a defined event – an accident, a listed critical illness, or a day spent in hospital – regardless of what the treatment cost. It does not pay hospital bills. | Read this first – it does not replace a health policy |
| AccidentCare | A lump sum on accidental death or disability. Cover options run from ₹5 lakh to ₹5 crore. Temporary total disability is covered from ₹1 lakh to ₹20 lakh in multiples of ₹50,000. | Sized against your income, not hospital costs |
| CritiCare | A lump sum on diagnosis of a listed critical illness. Adults only, entry 18 to 65. | Read the illness list before buying |
| HospiCash | A fixed amount for each day in hospital, whatever the bill. Adults 18 to 65, children from 1 day. | Covers the costs a health policy will not |
| How you buy it | The three covers can be taken individually or together, each with its own sum insured. | Buy only the ones that answer a real gap |
Health Assurance exclusions: what the plan will not pay for
Every policy carries exclusions, and they are the clauses people read for the first time at claim stage. These are the ones worth knowing before you buy.
Where Health Assurance falls short
No plan is right for everyone, and a page that only lists strengths is not much use to you. These are the gaps we would raise on a call before recommending it.
Health Assurance questions, answered
Is Health Assurance a substitute for health insurance?
No, and this is the most important thing to know about it. It pays fixed amounts on defined events – an accident, a listed critical illness, a day in hospital – and never reimburses a hospital bill. You need an indemnity policy alongside it.
What are the three covers?
AccidentCare pays a lump sum on accidental death or disability, with options from ₹5 lakh to ₹5 crore. CritiCare pays a lump sum on a listed critical illness, adults only. HospiCash pays a fixed amount for each day in hospital. You can buy them individually or together.
Who can buy it?
Adults from 18 to 65 for all three covers. Children can be covered under AccidentCare from 2 years and under HospiCash from 1 day. CritiCare is adults only.
When is a fixed-benefit plan worth buying?
When it answers a gap your health policy leaves – lost income after an accident, the non-medical costs of a long admission, or a lump sum to fund treatment choices insurance will not. It is a supplement, never a replacement.
Read it from the insurer
We summarise. The policy wording is the contract, and it is the only document that settles a dispute. These links go to the insurer's own pages.
Understand the terms before you commit
A plan page tells you what this policy does. These explain why each term matters and what it costs you when it is missing.
Other Niva Bupa plans we have read
Niva Bupa files these separately, and the terms differ between them. If you are choosing within the range, compare the waiting periods and the exclusions rather than the sum insured.
