What ReAssure 3.0 Black covers

These are the terms that decide what you are actually paid when you claim. Room rent, co-pay and restoration do more to shape a settlement than the sum insured does, and they are read from Niva Bupa's own policy wording.

03Add-ons

ReAssure 3.0 Black add-ons you can buy with it

Each of these costs extra and each has its own conditions. Some are genuinely worth it; several exist to patch a gap in the base plan. Ask what each one adds before it goes on your quote.

Claim Safeguard+
Pays every non-payable item, across Lists I, II, III and IV of the policy annexure – the consumables, gloves, PPE and administrative charges that hospitals bill separately and that the base plan does not settle.
Pre-Existing Disease Wait Time Modification
Moves the 36-month pre-existing wait to 24 months or 12 months. It can only be chosen when you buy the policy and cannot be added, changed or removed at a renewal.
Specific Disease Wait Time Modification
Moves the 24-month specific-disease wait in either direction. 12 months shortens it for extra premium; 36 months lengthens it in exchange for a cheaper premium. Check which way your quote has been built, because the 36-month option leaves you waiting a year longer than the standard plan. Chosen at purchase only.
Initial Wait Period Modification
Cuts the 30-day initial wait to 15, 10 or 7 days. Purchase-time only.
Pre- and Post-Hospitalisation Modification
Extend the 60-day pre-hospitalisation window to 90 or 180 days and the 180-day post window to 270 or 365 days. The same option can also shorten both in exchange for a lower premium.
Cash-Bag+
Cashback in every claim-free year – 10% of your first renewal premium and 5% of each renewal after, plus an extra 10% of the balance for every block of three claim-free years. Spendable on premiums, OPD, deductible and co-payment.
Borderless
Treatment anywhere in the world. On Black that is up to ₹10 lakh at the ₹5 and ₹10 lakh sum insured, and up to ₹5 crore on the Unlimited option. Co-payment options run 0% to 50%.
WellConsult+
Outpatient cover of up to 5 times your total premium, spent on consultations, diagnostics, pharmacy and gym memberships. Reimbursement claims carry a co-payment.
Critical Illness
A lump sum of up to ₹3 crore on diagnosis of a listed critical illness, paid regardless of what treatment costs.
Personal Accident, Lite and Pro
Three versions. Lite covers accidental death only; the standard version adds permanent total and partial disability; Pro adds accidental OPD. Cover is 1x to 5x your base sum insured, or up to ₹1 crore on the Unlimited option.
Hospital Daily Cash and Convalescence
On Black, ₹4,000 for each day in hospital up to 30 days a year, and ₹50,000 if an admission runs beyond 10 days. A dependant accompanying you can claim ₹4,000 a day for up to 10 days.
Annual Health Check-up
Available from day one, in a cashless-only version or a cashless-plus-reimbursement version. The Black test list is the widest of the four variants.
Accident Care
After an accident: ICU at home, nursing care at home, blood transfusion and physiotherapy, each with its own limit that rises with your sum insured, plus a nurse visit allowance and a financial guidance session.
International Cover
Annual multi-trip cover with a maximum of 45 days per trip, and an international sum insured of ₹5 lakh to ₹5 crore covering emergency hospitalisation, evacuation, repatriation and lost baggage.
Aggregate Deductible (this reduces your cover)
You carry the first ₹10,000 up to ₹5,00,000 of claims each year and the premium falls. It cannot be combined with the voluntary co-payment option.
Voluntary Co-payment (this reduces your cover)
Take a 10% to 50% share of every claim in exchange for a cheaper premium. It cannot be combined with the aggregate deductible.
HeadsUp and Tiered Network (these reduce your cover)
HeadsUp requires you to call 48 hours before a planned admission and use a recommended provider, or a 20% co-payment applies. Tiered Network restricts you to a named hospital list, again with a 20% co-payment outside it. Both lower the premium by narrowing where you can be treated.

05Waiting periods

ReAssure 3.0 Black waiting periods: when each part of the cover starts

Waiting periods run from the day cover began, not from the day you fall ill, and they run in parallel rather than one after another.

Initial Waiting Period30 days
Specific Illness24 months
Pre-Existing Disease36 months
Personal Waiting Period (conditions named on your schedule)Up to 48 months

The named illnesses that wait 24 months

These wait 24 months from the start of your first ReAssure 3.0 policy. An accident is covered from day one and cancer after only the 30-day wait. If the same condition is also pre-existing, the longer 36-month clock applies. Indicative list – the wording carries the full set.

Indicative listFrom the policy wording. Your own document governs.
01Pancreatitis and stones in the biliary and urinary system
02Cataract, glaucoma and retinal detachment
03Enlarged prostate, hydrocele and spermatocele
04Prolapsed uterus or cervix, endometriosis, fibroids, PCOD and hysterectomy unless caused by cancer
05Piles, fissure, fistula or abscess in the anal and rectal region
06Hernia of any site or type
07Osteoarthritis, joint replacement, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout and slipped disc
08Varicose veins of the lower legs
09Benign growths anywhere in the body tumours, cysts, polyps, nodules and lumps
10Ulcers, erosion or varices of the gastrointestinal tract
11Surgery for middle ear and mastoid disease, tonsils and adenoids, nasal septum and sinuses
06Exclusions

ReAssure 3.0 Black exclusions: what the plan will not pay for

Every policy carries exclusions, and they are the clauses people read for the first time at claim stage. These are the ones worth knowing before you buy.

Not coveredIndicative, not exhaustive. Your policy wording is the contract.
01An admission where only tests were done and no treatment followed – an MRI, CT scan, endoscopy or colonoscopy stay is not payable
02Maternity and childbirth, and sterility, infertility, IVF and surrogacy – there is no maternity option on this plan
03Custodial care and hospice care help with daily living or end-of-life support rather than active treatment
04All dental treatment other than after an accident or for cancer, and screening or treatment of an external congenital anomaly
05Cosmetic or plastic surgery, unless it rebuilds you after an accident, burn or cancer
06Home medical and ambulatory devices such as pulse oximeters, BP monitors, CPAP machines, crutches and wheelchairs, and the automation machine for peritoneal dialysis
07The honest bit

Where ReAssure 3.0 Black falls short

No plan is right for everyone, and a page that only lists strengths is not much use to you. These are the gaps we would raise on a call before recommending it.

Worth knowing before you buyNone of these are dealbreakers on their own. They are the trade-offs this plan asks you to accept.
01There is no maternity cover and no maternity rider. Childbirth, IVF, surrogacy and infertility treatment are permanently excluded, so a couple planning a family has to look elsewhere.
02The annual health check-up is not in the base plan. On most plans at this price it is included; here it is one more paid option.
03Several of the optional covers make the plan worse rather than better – the Specific Disease modification can push the wait out to 36 months, and HeadsUp and Tiered Network each impose a 20% co-payment if you treat outside a named list. They are sold as premium savings, so read what your quote has switched on.
04The insurer can attach a personal waiting period of up to 48 months to conditions it names on your schedule at underwriting. That is a year longer than the standard pre-existing wait.
05ReAssure Forever does not apply at all if you take the Unlimited sum insured option, and on the ₹5 and ₹10 lakh options it stays dormant until your first claim is paid.
08FAQs

ReAssure 3.0 Black questions, answered

How does the Booster+ bonus work on ReAssure 3.0 Black?

100% of your base sum insured is added each year and it keeps accumulating to a maximum of 1000%. On a ₹10 lakh policy that is a ceiling of ₹1 crore of Booster+ on top of the base cover. It credits the part of your cover you did not use, so a claim in a year means no addition for that year, and if you later cut your base sum insured the accumulated Booster+ is reduced in proportion.

What does ReAssure Forever actually give me?

The first claim the insurer pays switches it on, and once switched on it stays for the life of the policy provided you renew without a break. After that it refills your cover an unlimited number of times, each refill capped at the base sum insured. One thing to know before you buy: it does not apply to policies taken on the Unlimited sum insured option, because there is nothing to refill.

Is there a room rent limit or room co-payment?

Not on Black. It is the only ReAssure 3.0 variant with no room type capping, and the co-payment grid that penalises Classic, Select and Elite buyers for taking a higher room category does not apply to it. On Classic, by contrast, taking any room above a general ward triggers a 20% to 50% co-payment on the entire claim.

Can I change the waiting periods?

Yes, in both directions, and that is the part to watch. The pre-existing wait can come down from 36 months to 24 or 12. The initial wait can come down from 30 days to 15, 10 or 7. But the specific-disease option runs both ways – 12 months shortens it, while 36 months lengthens it in exchange for a cheaper premium. All of these can only be chosen when you buy, never at a renewal.

What is Lock the Clock on this plan?

Your premium is charged at the age you were when you bought the policy and stays there until a claim is paid. It is available on Elite and Black only – Classic and Select do not get it. Once a claim is paid the age unlocks, and on a floater a claim by any member unlocks the whole policy.

Does the plan cover consumables?

Not as standard. Claim Safeguard+ is the option that does it, and it covers every non-payable item across all four annexure lists rather than a subset. Without it, the gloves, PPE, syringes and administrative charges that a hospital bills separately are yours to settle after the claim is paid.
