Axis Max Life renewal premium: grace period, revival and how to pay

A term plan stays in force while each premium is paid, so renewal means paying on time. Axis Max Life gives 30 days' grace, or 15 on monthly premiums, and charges no revival interest if you revive within 60 days of the lapse (Smart Term Plan Plus policy document, UIN 104N132V01). After that, interest is 6.50% to 8.50% a year.

What happens if I miss the Axis Max Life due date?

You have 30 days, or 15 days on a monthly premium, to pay without any penalty or late fee, and cover carries on through that time. If the life insured dies before the overdue premium is paid, Axis Max Life pays the death benefit after deducting the unpaid premium up to the date of death.

If the grace period ends unpaid, a policy with no surrender or early exit value lapses and your family is not covered. A policy that has built one is handled differently: the return-of-premium, Early ROP Plus and Whole Life variants become reduced paid-up, and the other variants pay out the early exit value if they aren't revived within the revival period.

Can I revive a lapsed Axis Max Life policy?

Axis Max Life will revive a lapsed policy within five years of the first unpaid premium, but not beyond the policy term. You send a written request, give evidence of insurability (a health declaration and, if asked, medical reports at your own cost), and pay every overdue premium with interest. Revival takes effect only when Axis Max Life approves it in writing.

The interest depends on how long the policy has been lapsed: nothing up to 60 days, the RBI Bank Rate plus 1% (6.50% now) from 61 to 180 days, and the Bank Rate plus 3% (8.50%) after that, compounded yearly on the due premiums. Those rates took effect on 1 July 2026, based on a Bank Rate of 5.50%. They're checked against the Bank Rate each 31 March and change only if it has moved by 1% or more. If the five years pass without a revival, a lapsed policy ends without value; one that had built an early exit value pays it out and ends.

Can I skip a year of Axis Max Life premiums instead of lapsing?

Smart Term Plan Plus has a built-in Cover Continuance option. Once the policy has run three years with every premium paid, you can ask in writing, at least 30 days before the next policy anniversary (15 days on monthly mode), to defer up to 12 months of premium. Cover, optional covers and riders carry on, no interest is charged, and a claim in that period is paid after deducting what's unpaid.

You then pay the deferred amount with the next premium, within 30 days (15 on monthly mode) of the next policy year starting, or the policy lapses. You can pay it earlier if you like. The option comes back after a five-year gap, but not in the last year of the premium-paying term, and not on single-premium policies.

Axis Max Life renewal premium, questions answered

What is the grace period for Axis Max Life term insurance?

30 days from the due date, or 15 days if you pay monthly, on Smart Term Plan Plus (policy document, UIN 104N132V01). There's no penalty or late fee inside the grace period, and cover continues. If the premium is still unpaid when it ends, the policy lapses unless it has built a surrender or early exit value.

Is my family covered if I die during the grace period?

Yes. Axis Max Life's policy document says cover continues during the grace period, and if the life insured dies before the overdue premium is paid, it pays the death benefit after deducting the unpaid premium up to the date of death. Once the grace period ends unpaid, a lapsed policy pays nothing.

Is there interest on reviving an Axis Max Life policy?

Not if you revive within 60 days of the lapse. From 61 to 180 days the rate is the RBI Bank Rate plus 1%, 6.50% now, and after 180 days the Bank Rate plus 3%, 8.50%, compounded yearly on the due premiums. These rates apply from 1 July 2026. You'll also need to show you're still insurable.

Can I skip a year of Axis Max Life premiums?

Yes, with Cover Continuance, once the policy has run three years with every premium paid. Ask in writing at least 30 days before the policy anniversary and you can defer up to 12 months of premium, with cover continuing and no interest charged. Pay the deferred amount with the next premium, or the policy lapses.

Why hasn't my PhonePe or Google Pay payment shown on my Axis Max Life policy?

It can take a few days. Axis Max Life says payments through PhonePe and Google Pay usually take 3 to 4 business days to show up on the policy. If you're near the end of the grace period, pay on Axis Max Life's own website instead, and keep the payment confirmation.
