02Cover

What Senior First covers

These are the terms that decide what you are actually paid when you claim. Room rent, co-pay and restoration do more to shape a settlement than the sum insured does, and they are read from Niva Bupa's own policy wording.

What this plan does
03Waiting periods

Senior First waiting periods: when each part of the cover starts

Waiting periods run from the day cover began, not from the day you fall ill, and they run in parallel rather than one after another.

Pre-existing disease24 months of continuous cover
04Exclusions

Senior First exclusions: what the plan will not pay for

Every policy carries exclusions, and they are the clauses people read for the first time at claim stage. These are the ones worth knowing before you buy.

Not coveredIndicative, not exhaustive. Your policy wording is the contract.
01Pre-existing diseases and their direct complications, until 24 months of continuous cover.
02The listed specified diseases and procedures, for the period set out in the wording.
03Where the sum insured is increased, the waiting periods start again on the increase only.
05The honest bit

Where Senior First falls short

No plan is right for everyone, and a page that only lists strengths is not much use to you. These are the gaps we would raise on a call before recommending it.

Worth knowing before you buyNone of these are dealbreakers on their own. They are the trade-offs this plan asks you to accept.
01The entry window is narrow at both ends. You cannot buy before 61, and you cannot buy at all after 75, so it is not a plan to postpone.
02The floater covers self and spouse only. It does not extend to children or other dependants.
03Niva Bupa settles 93.3% of claims and draws 35.4 complaints per 10,000, both weaker than the market's best. On a plan bought at 61 or later, when claims are most likely, that record matters more than the premium.
04Gold caps at ₹10 lakh, which is thin for a serious metro admission. The room category and limits also differ between the variants, so compare those and not just the sum insured.
05Pre-existing conditions still wait two years, and at this age two years is a long exposure.
06FAQs

Senior First questions, answered

Who can buy Senior First?

Anyone aged 61 to 75 at last birthday. A spouse can be added on a family floater from age 18. Once you pass 75 you cannot enter the policy at all, though existing cover renews for life.

What is the difference between Gold and Platinum?

Cover and terms. Gold offers ₹5 lakh or ₹10 lakh. Platinum runs from ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh in multiples of ₹5 lakh, and the room category and internal limits differ. For a metro admission, Gold's ceiling is the constraint.

What is the waiting period for pre-existing conditions?

24 months of continuous cover. That is shorter than the 36 months many senior plans apply, and it is one of the better terms here.

Can I add my children?

No. The floater covers self and spouse only.
