Senior First in one table
Claim settlement and complaint figures are IRDAI-published and held centrally by nyvo, not taken from the insurer's marketing.
What Senior First covers
These are the terms that decide what you are actually paid when you claim. Room rent, co-pay and restoration do more to shape a settlement than the sum insured does, and they are read from Niva Bupa's own policy wording.

| Feature | This plan | What good looks like |
|---|---|---|
| What kind of plan this is | Indemnity health insurance written specifically for older buyers. It reimburses hospital bills up to the sum insured. | Read this first |
| Entry age | 61 to 75 years at last birthday. On a family floater the second member enters from 18. Renewal is lifelong. | Narrow window – you cannot buy before 61 or after 75 |
| Variants | Gold, with sums insured of ₹5 lakh or ₹10 lakh. Platinum, from ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh in multiples of ₹5 lakh. Room category and limits differ between them. | Platinum for a metro admission |
| Policy basis | Individual, or family floater covering self and spouse | Floater only extends to a spouse, not children |
| Pre-existing wait | 24 months of continuous cover | Shorter than the 36 months many senior plans impose |
| Co-payment | 50% of every admissible claim by default. You can lower it to 40%, 30% or 20% for extra premium, but only at the start of your first policy, and once chosen it cannot be changed. Taking a room above your eligible category adds 10 percentage points to the co-pay. An optional annual deductible of one-fifth of the base sum insured replaces the co-payment, apart from that room-category 10%. | Price the lowest co-pay before you buy; it cannot be changed later |
Senior First waiting periods: when each part of the cover starts
Waiting periods run from the day cover began, not from the day you fall ill, and they run in parallel rather than one after another.
| Pre-existing disease | 24 months of continuous cover |

Senior First exclusions: what the plan will not pay for
Every policy carries exclusions, and they are the clauses people read for the first time at claim stage. These are the ones worth knowing before you buy.
Where Senior First falls short
No plan is right for everyone, and a page that only lists strengths is not much use to you. These are the gaps we would raise on a call before recommending it.
Senior First questions, answered
Who can buy Senior First?
Anyone aged 61 to 75 at last birthday. A spouse can be added on a family floater from age 18. Once you pass 75 you cannot enter the policy at all, though existing cover renews for life.
What is the difference between Gold and Platinum?
Cover and terms. Gold offers ₹5 lakh or ₹10 lakh. Platinum runs from ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh in multiples of ₹5 lakh, and the room category and internal limits differ. For a metro admission, Gold's ceiling is the constraint.
What is the waiting period for pre-existing conditions?
24 months of continuous cover. That is shorter than the 36 months many senior plans apply, and it is one of the better terms here.
Can I add my children?
No. The floater covers self and spouse only.
Is there a co-payment on Senior First?
Yes. 50% of every admissible claim by default, which you can lower to 40%, 30% or 20% for extra premium at the start of your first policy only. A room above your eligible category adds 10 percentage points to the co-pay. If you choose the optional annual deductible of one-fifth of the base sum insured, the co-payment does not apply, apart from that room-category 10%.
Read it from the insurer
We summarise. The policy wording is the contract, and it is the only document that settles a dispute. These links go to the insurer's own pages.
Understand the terms before you commit
A plan page tells you what this policy does. These explain why each term matters and what it costs you when it is missing.
Other Niva Bupa plans we have read
Niva Bupa files these separately, and the terms differ between them. If you are choosing within the range, compare the waiting periods and the exclusions rather than the sum insured.
