02Cover

What MaxProtect covers

These are the terms that decide what you are actually paid when you claim. Room rent, co-pay and restoration do more to shape a settlement than the sum insured does, and they are read from ICICI Lombard's own policy wording.

What this plan does
03Waiting periods

MaxProtect waiting periods: when each part of the cover starts

Waiting periods run from the day cover began, not from the day you fall ill, and they run in parallel rather than one after another.

Pre-existing disease36 months of continuous cover, reducible to 24 months for additional premium
Specified diseases and procedures24 months of continuous cover
04Exclusions

MaxProtect exclusions: what the plan will not pay for

Every policy carries exclusions, and they are the clauses people read for the first time at claim stage. These are the ones worth knowing before you buy.

Not coveredIndicative, not exhaustive. Your policy wording is the contract.
01Pre-existing diseases and their direct complications, until the waiting period above has passed.
02The listed specified diseases and procedures, for the period set out in the wording.
03Where the sum insured is increased, the waiting periods start again on the increase only.
05The honest bit

Where MaxProtect falls short

No plan is right for everyone, and a page that only lists strengths is not much use to you. These are the gaps we would raise on a call before recommending it.

Worth knowing before you buyNone of these are dealbreakers on their own. They are the trade-offs this plan asks you to accept.
01The floor is ₹50 lakh, so this is not a plan to compare on premium with a ₹10 lakh policy. It is a different purchase.
02Pre-existing conditions wait 36 months as standard, which is the longest IRDAI now permits. Cutting it to 24 costs more premium.
03ICICI Lombard settles 87.6% of claims, weaker than most insurers we track. A large sum insured does not compensate for a claim that is declined.
04Zone-based co-payment applies on each and every claim if you are treated in a higher zone than the one you bought, which can catch someone who moves city or travels for treatment.
05Entry closes at 65, so this is a plan to buy before you need it rather than after.
06FAQs

MaxProtect questions, answered

How much cover does MaxProtect offer?

It starts at ₹50 lakh and the prospectus states no maximum. That makes it a high sum insured plan rather than a general family policy, and it should be compared with other ₹50 lakh and ₹1 crore plans, not with a ₹10 lakh one.

What is the waiting period for pre-existing conditions?

36 months of continuous cover as standard. You can reduce it to 24 months by paying additional premium, which is worth costing if you already have a condition you expect to claim on.

Is there a co-payment?

Not a base co-payment on every claim, but a zone-based co-payment applies where treatment is taken in a higher zone than the one you bought. There is none for Zone A or Zone D.

Until what age can I buy it?

65. Renewal after that is lifelong, so the constraint is getting in rather than staying in.
