ICICI Lombard Health Booster

Sold in two forms under one filing: a top-up, where the deductible applies to each claim, and a super top-up, where it applies to the year's claims together. The super top-up is the buyer-friendly version and the difference decides whether the plan pays at all.

Read from ICICI LOMBARD General Insurance Company Limited's own policy wording and prospectus. Last checked against those documents on . The wording you are issued is the contract.

02Cover

What Health Booster covers

These are the terms that decide what you are actually paid when you claim. Room rent, co-pay and restoration do more to shape a settlement than the sum insured does, and they are read from ICICI Lombard's own policy wording.

FeatureThis planWhat good looks like
What kind of plan this isA top-up, available as either a top-up or a super top-up. Both pay only above a deductible, so they sit on top of an existing policy rather than replacing one.Read this first – it is not a standalone policy
Top-up deductible₹50,000 to ₹5 lakh. On the top-up form the deductible applies per claim.Per-claim is the weaker mechanic
Super top-up deductible₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh. On the super top-up form every claim in the year counts towards the same deductible.Prefer this version

What this plan does
03Waiting periods

Health Booster waiting periods: when each part of the cover starts

Waiting periods run from the day cover began, not from the day you fall ill, and they run in parallel rather than one after another.

Pre-existing disease24 months of continuous cover
04Exclusions

Health Booster exclusions: what the plan will not pay for

Every policy carries exclusions, and they are the clauses people read for the first time at claim stage. These are the ones worth knowing before you buy.

Not coveredIndicative, not exhaustive. Your policy wording is the contract.
01Pre-existing diseases and their direct complications, until the waiting period above has passed.
02The listed specified diseases and procedures, for the period set out in the wording.
03Where the sum insured is increased, the waiting periods start again on the increase only.
05The honest bit

Where Health Booster falls short

No plan is right for everyone, and a page that only lists strengths is not much use to you. These are the gaps we would raise on a call before recommending it.

Worth knowing before you buyNone of these are dealbreakers on their own. They are the trade-offs this plan asks you to accept.
01It is not a standalone policy. Both forms pay only above the deductible, so if your base cover lapses or a claim falls below the deductible, nothing is paid.
02The top-up form applies the deductible to EVERY claim separately. Three admissions of ₹40,000 against a ₹1 lakh deductible pay nothing at all. The super top-up counts them together and pays. If you are quoted the top-up, ask why.
03ICICI Lombard settles 87.6% of claims, among the weaker records we track.
04The deductible resets every policy year, so an illness spanning two policy years crosses it twice.
05A ₹50,000 deductible sounds attractive but sits below most base policies, which means you are paying for cover you already have.
06FAQs

Health Booster questions, answered

What is the difference between the top-up and the super top-up?

The deductible. On the top-up it applies to each claim separately; on the super top-up every claim in the policy year counts towards the same one. Three admissions of ₹40,000 against a ₹1 lakh deductible pay nothing under the top-up and cross it under the super top-up. The super top-up is the version worth buying.

Do I need an existing policy to buy this?

In practice, yes. It pays only above the deductible, so claims below that figure are entirely yours. It is built to sit on top of a retail policy or an employer's cover.

Is there a maximum entry age?

No. The prospectus states no restriction on maximum entry age, which is unusual for a top-up – many close entry at 65.

What is the waiting period for pre-existing conditions?

24 months of continuous cover, which is shorter than the 36 months many top-ups apply.
