United India Individual Platinum Plan

The Platinum plan of United India's Individual Health Insurance Policy, UIN UIIHLIP25036V062425 – the tier the insurer assigns to adults entering between 18 and 35, and to children. Sums insured run ₹2 lakh to ₹20 lakh on a separate limit for each person. The policy wording heads its waiting-period section "Only Applicable for Gold Plan", and applies its surgical sub-limits and its 10% cap on pre and post-hospitalisation to Gold as well, which leaves Platinum without any of the three. What United India does instead is underwrite you at entry.

02Cover

What Individual Platinum Plan covers

These are the terms that decide what you are actually paid when you claim. Room rent, co-pay and restoration do more to shape a settlement than the sum insured does, and they are read from United India's own policy wording.

03Add-ons

Individual Platinum Plan add-ons you can buy with it

Each of these costs extra and each has its own conditions. Some are genuinely worth it; several exist to patch a gap in the base plan. Ask what each one adds before it goes on your quote.

Daily Cash Allowance on Hospitalisation
A fixed amount for each completed 24 hours in hospital, scaled to your sum insured – ₹500 a day up to ₹5,000 a year, ₹1,000 up to ₹10,000, or ₹2,000 up to ₹20,000. It is not paid on day care claims, and an amount equal to the first 48 hours is deducted from every admission.
04Price

Individual Platinum Plan discounts you can ask for

Published discounts on this plan. Most are applied at quote stage rather than offered, so it is worth naming the ones you qualify for. Every figure is a ceiling, not a promise - what you actually get depends on the case.

DiscountWorthWhen it applies
Family discountUp to 5%On the total premium where the policy covers you and one or more of your spouse, dependent children or parents. It does not apply to the optional cover premium.

From the plan prospectus. This product has no no-claim bonus and no premium discount for claim-free years, so these two are the only levers on the price.

05Waiting periods

Individual Platinum Plan waiting periods: when each part of the cover starts

Waiting periods run from the day cover began, not from the day you fall ill, and they run in parallel rather than one after another.

Initial waiting periodNone
Named specific illnessesNone
Pre-Existing DiseaseNone. A declared condition is handled at underwriting instead – United India can load the premium by up to 200%, or decline the proposal
Moratorium60 months, after which no claim can be contested for non-disclosure except on proven fraud
06Exclusions

Individual Platinum Plan exclusions: what the plan will not pay for

Every policy carries exclusions, and they are the clauses people read for the first time at claim stage. These are the ones worth knowing before you buy.

Not coveredIndicative, not exhaustive. Your policy wording is the contract.
01Out-patient treatment of any kind
02Maternity and childbirth there is no maternity option on this product
03An admission arranged mainly for investigation and evaluation, where no treatment follows
04Rest cure, rehabilitation and respite care, including custodial care at home or in a facility
05Congenital external diseases, defects and anomalies
06Correction of eyesight for a refractive error below 7.5 dioptres, and the cost of hearing aids and optometric therapy
07The honest bit

Where Individual Platinum Plan falls short

No plan is right for everyone, and a page that only lists strengths is not much use to you. These are the gaps we would raise on a call before recommending it.

Worth knowing before you buyNone of these are dealbreakers on their own. They are the trade-offs this plan asks you to accept.
01The absence of waiting periods is paid for at underwriting rather than in the policy. United India can load the premium for a declared condition by up to 200%, applied from inception and at every renewal, or decline the proposal outright.
02There is no cumulative bonus and no no-claim discount. Buy ₹10 lakh at 30 and it is still ₹10 lakh at 50, against hospital bills that will not have stood still.
03There is no restoration of the sum insured, and no add-on offers it. Once the year's cover is spent, that person has nothing left until renewal.
04Entry closes at 35. Miss it and United India puts you on the Gold plan, which does carry the waiting periods, the surgical sub-limits and the 10% cap on pre and post-hospitalisation.
05Maternity is a permanent exclusion with no option to add it, which is a real gap in a plan sold to 18 to 35 year olds.
06Room rent is capped at 1% of the sum insured a day, so on a ₹5 lakh cover a ₹8,000 room triggers a proportionate deduction across the surgeon's fee, theatre charges and the rest of the associated expenses.
08FAQs

Individual Platinum Plan questions, answered

Does the Platinum plan really have no waiting periods?

That is what the current policy wording says. Section IV of the Individual Health Insurance Policy is headed "Waiting Periods (Only Applicable for Gold Plan)", and the three waits inside it – 30 days for any illness, 24 and 36 months for the named condition lists, and 36 months for pre-existing disease – sit under that heading. Nothing in the Platinum sections reinstates them. It is unusual enough that it is worth confirming on your own policy schedule before you rely on it, and worth asking the insurer to put in writing at the quote stage.

If there is no pre-existing disease wait, what happens to a condition I already have?

It moves from the policy into the underwriting. United India asks for a proposal form and, above certain ages or where the health history is adverse, a pre-acceptance medical check-up. If a condition is disclosed and accepted, the insurer can apply a risk loading of up to 200% of the premium for that person, applied from the first policy and carried into every renewal. It can also decline the proposal. So the honest description is not that pre-existing conditions are free, but that they are priced up front rather than excluded for three years.

How is Platinum different from the Gold plan of the same policy?

Four things. Platinum runs to ₹20 lakh where Gold stops at ₹10 lakh. Platinum has no waiting periods; Gold has all of them. Platinum has no sub-limits; Gold caps cataract at 25% of the sum insured or ₹40,000 an eye, and hernia and hysterectomy at 25% or ₹1 lakh. And the 10% of sum insured cap on pre and post-hospitalisation applies to Gold but is expressly disapplied for Platinum. Which one you get is decided by your age at entry, not by choice.

Can I stay on Platinum after I turn 36?

Yes. The plan is fixed by the age at which you first join, and the prospectus is explicit that a person crossing the maximum entry age for a plan continues on that plan provided the policy is renewed without a break. So buying Platinum at 34 keeps you on Platinum terms for life, while buying at 36 puts you on Gold for life. That makes an unbroken renewal record more valuable on this product than on most.

What is the room rent limit?

Room, boarding and nursing charges are payable up to 1% of the sum insured a day, and ICU up to 2%. On ₹10 lakh that is ₹10,000 a day for a room, which is workable in most cities; on ₹2 lakh it is ₹2,000, which is not. Take a room above your entitlement and a proportionate deduction is applied to the associated medical expenses in the same ratio, though not to pharmacy, consumables, implants or diagnostics, and not where the hospital does not bill differently by room category.

Is maternity covered?

No, on either tier of this product. Maternity is a permanent exclusion under the Individual Health Insurance Policy and there is no optional cover that brings it in. Given the plan is sold to people aged 18 to 35, that is the gap most likely to matter. United India offers maternity as an optional cover on the Family Medicare Policy instead, on a sum insured above ₹3 lakh and after 24 months, so a couple planning a family should price that plan alongside this one.
