HDFC Life Click 2 Protect Elite Plus

HDFC Life's term plan for larger covers, starting at ₹50 lakh with no upper limit. Its distinguishing feature is the Smart Exit Benefit, which returns every premium you have paid if you decide the cover has done its job. Premiums can also be deferred for up to 12 months, and there is a return-of-premium version for buyers who want money back at maturity.

What Click 2 Protect Elite Plus does, and what it does not

Term insurance is a narrow product, so the useful question is not how this plan scores against a benchmark – it is what it pays for and what it leaves out. Both lists come from HDFC Life's own documents.

What this plan does
01Smart Exit Benefit every premium you have paid comes back if you exit once the cover has done its job
02Premiums can be deferred for up to 12 months with the Premium Break Benefit
03Optional return of premium version that hands back every premium if you outlive the term
04Cover from ₹50 lakh with no stated upper limit, running to age 85
05Four optional riders
What it does not do
01Entry after 45 this plan closes there, well below the 65 most of the market allows
02A single-premium option the plan is regular or limited premium only
03Cover below ₹50 lakh
03Variants

Which variant should you take?

This plan is sold in more than one form, and the choice is made once at purchase. Picking the wrong one is not something you can quietly correct later, so it is worth a minute now.

Base coverMost buyers

Pure cover from ₹50 lakh with no upper limit, running to age 85 on terms of 10 to 40 years. Carries the Smart Exit Benefit and the premium deferral.

Return of Premium option

The same cover with every premium handed back on survival to maturity. You pay materially more for it and you are pre-funding the refund yourself over the term.

04Exclusions

Click 2 Protect Elite Plus exclusions: what the plan will not pay for

Every policy carries exclusions, and they are the clauses people read for the first time at claim stage. These are the ones worth knowing before you buy.

Not coveredIndicative, not exhaustive. Your policy wording is the contract.
01Suicide within 12 months of cover starting or of the policy being revived – at least 80% of the premiums paid is returned and nothing more.
05The honest bit

Where Click 2 Protect Elite Plus falls short

No plan is right for everyone, and a page that only lists strengths is not much use to you. These are the gaps we would raise on a call before recommending it.

Worth knowing before you buyNone of these are dealbreakers on their own. They are the trade-offs this plan asks you to accept.
01Entry closes at 45. That is 20 years below what most of the market allows, and below HDFC Life's own Click 2 Protect Life, which takes entrants to 65. If you are over 45 this plan is simply unavailable.
02The minimum cover is ₹50 lakh, so it is not the plan for a smaller policy.
03The premium payment term drives the minimum policy term. Choose 15-Pay and you are committed to at least 20 years, which is easy to miss when comparing quotes.
04There is no single-premium option, unlike most of the Click 2 Protect range.
05The return of premium version costs materially more. The refund is your own money handed back without interest, having sat with the insurer for the whole term.
