Super Term Plan

Aditya Birla Sun Life's pure term plan, with a choice between cover that stays flat and cover that grows over the policy term. Worth knowing before you compare anything else: Aditya Birla Sun Life draws 2.33 complaints on the owner's 2022-25 table, the lowest of any major life insurer in India. A settlement ratio tells you whether claims get paid; a complaint volume tells you what the process feels like.

Cover

What Super Term Plan does, and what it does not

Term insurance is a narrow product, so the useful question is not how this plan scores against a benchmark - it is what it pays for and what it leaves out. Both lists come from Aditya Birla Sun Life's own documents.

What this plan does
  • Two death benefit options - level cover, or cover that increases over the term
  • Entry open from 18 to 65 under both options
  • Cover can run to age 85
  • Accidental death and disability available as a rider
What it does not do
  • Maturity benefit - nothing is paid if you survive the term
Variants

Which variant should you take?

This plan is sold in more than one form, and the choice is made once at purchase. Picking the wrong one is not something you can quietly correct later, so it is worth a minute now.

Level Cover

Most buyers

The sum assured stays flat for the whole policy term. The simpler and cheaper of the two.

Increasing Cover

The sum assured rises over the policy term, so the cover keeps pace with rising costs. Costs more at outset.

Add-ons

Add-ons you can buy with it

Each of these costs extra and each has its own conditions. Some are genuinely worth it; several exist to patch a gap in the base plan. Ask what each one adds before it goes on your quote.

Add-onWhat it does
ABSLI Accidental Death and Disability RiderPays 100% of the rider sum assured on accidental death or disability. UIN 109B018V03.
Exclusions

What this plan will not pay for

Every policy carries exclusions, and they are the clauses people read for the first time at claim stage. These are the ones worth knowing before you buy.

Not covered

Indicative, not exhaustive. Your policy wording is the contract.

  • Suicide within 12 months of policy commencement or revival - the payout is limited to a return of premiums, per the standard clause. Read the policy wording for the exact percentage.
The honest bit

Where Super Term Plan falls short

No plan is right for everyone, and a page that only lists strengths is not much use to you. These are the gaps we would raise on a call before recommending it.

Worth knowing before you buy

None of these are dealbreakers on their own. They are the trade-offs this plan asks you to accept.

  • The brochure sets out the plan structure but leaves sum assured bands to the underwriting policy, so the cover you are actually offered is not knowable until you apply.
  • Increasing cover costs more from day one, and the benefit only compounds if you hold the policy for the long run.
  • No maturity benefit. Survive the term and nothing comes back.
  • Two brochure versions are in circulation, V01 and V02. Check the UIN on the document you are given matches the plan you were quoted.

We summarise. The policy wording is the contract, and it is the only document that settles a dispute. These links go to the insurer's own pages.
