What Happy Family Floater Policy Gold covers
These are the terms that decide what you are actually paid when you claim. Room rent, co-pay and restoration do more to shape a settlement than the sum insured does, and they are read from Oriental Insurance's own policy wording.
| Feature | This plan | What good looks like |
|---|---|---|
| Co-payment | None on the Gold plan for anyone who joined by 65. Someone admitted between 65 and 70 carries a compulsory 20% co-payment on every claim, at that renewal and every one after | No Co-payment |
| Room Rent Limit | 1% of sum insured a day · ICU 2% of sum insured a day | No room rent capping |
| Disease sub-limit | Domiciliary treatment capped at 10% of sum insured up to ₹50,000, dog and animal bite immunisation at ₹5,000, teleconsultation at ₹2,000 a family, second opinion at ₹10,000. Advanced treatments carry their own limits | No sub-limit |
| No Claim Bonus | None. Oriental discontinued the no-claim discount on this product, and only a legacy discount carried over from an older Happy Family Floater policy survives | 50% each year (Minimum upto 100%) |
| Restoration Benefit | Not built in, but available on Gold for an extra premium at 50% or 100% of the sum insured. It refills automatically to the extent of the claim, with no same-illness restriction | 100% restoration once in a year |
| Pre-Hospitalization | 30 days | At least 60 days |
| Post-Hospitalization | 60 days | At least 120 days |
| Consumables | Admission fees, registration fees and the usual non-payable items are excluded, and there is no add-on that buys them back | Consumables covered |
| Daily hospital cash | 0.1% of sum insured a day, for up to 10 days per illness and 1.5% of sum insured across the policy period | Included |
| New born baby cover | Covered from day one up to the full sum insured, on every plan tier including Gold | Covered |
| AYUSH Treatment | In-patient AYUSH treatment covered up to the full sum insured | Included |
| Mental illness and HIV/AIDS | Both covered up to the full sum insured | Covered |
| Organ donor | Donor hospitalisation up to the full sum insured when you are the recipient, and a lump sum of 10% of sum insured if you are the donor | Covered |

| Road ambulance | Up to ₹2,000 per illness, and 1% of sum insured a policy period subject to ₹6,000 | Included |
| Maternity | Not available on Gold. Oriental restricts maternity to the Diamond and Platinum plans | Covered |
| Entry age | Up to 65 for every member, with lifetime renewal. 65 to 70 is possible on Gold but only with a permanent 20% co-payment | No maximum entry age |
Happy Family Floater Policy Gold add-ons you can buy with it
Each of these costs extra and each has its own conditions. Some are genuinely worth it; several exist to patch a gap in the base plan. Ask what each one adds before it goes on your quote.
Happy Family Floater Policy Gold discounts you can ask for
Published discounts on this plan. Most are applied at quote stage rather than offered, so it is worth naming the ones you qualify for. Every figure is a ceiling, not a promise - what you actually get depends on the case.
| Discount | Worth | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| No TPA services | Up to 5.5% | If you choose not to have TPA servicing on the policy. It does not apply to the Personal Accident section premium. |
| Personal Accident family discount | Up to 10% | On the optional Personal Accident cover, where more than one member is covered under that section. |
| Overseas Mediclaim Policy | Up to 15% | Off the premium of an Oriental Overseas Mediclaim Policy taken while this policy is in force. |
From the plan prospectus. Note what is not here – there is no discount for claim-free years, because Oriental discontinued the no-claim discount on this product.
Happy Family Floater Policy Gold waiting periods: when each part of the cover starts
Waiting periods run from the day cover began, not from the day you fall ill, and they run in parallel rather than one after another.
| Initial Waiting Period | 30 days |
|---|---|
| Hypertension and diabetes | 90 days |
| Benign ENT disorders and polycystic ovarian disease | 1 year |
| Named specific illnesses | 2 years |
| Joint replacement, age-related osteoarthritis and osteoporosis | 3 years |
| Pre-Existing Disease | 36 months |
The named illnesses that wait 90 days to 3 years, depending on the condition
Oriental grades this waiting period rather than applying one figure. Hypertension and diabetes wait 90 days; benign ENT disorders and polycystic ovarian disease wait a year; the list below waits two years; joint replacement for a degenerative condition and age-related osteoarthritis and osteoporosis wait three. Where a listed condition is pre-existing at inception, the 36-month pre-existing wait applies instead. An accident is covered from day one. The list is indicative – the policy wording carries the full set.
Happy Family Floater Policy Gold exclusions: what the plan will not pay for
Every policy carries exclusions, and they are the clauses people read for the first time at claim stage. These are the ones worth knowing before you buy.
Where Happy Family Floater Policy Gold falls short
No plan is right for everyone, and a page that only lists strengths is not much use to you. These are the gaps we would raise on a call before recommending it.
Happy Family Floater Policy Gold questions, answered
What separates the Gold plan from Silver, Diamond and Platinum?
Sum insured is the first difference: Silver runs ₹1 to ₹5 lakh, Gold ₹6 to ₹10 lakh, Diamond ₹12 to ₹20 lakh and Platinum ₹25 to ₹50 lakh. Beyond that, Silver carries a compulsory 10% co-payment on every claim and Gold does not. Gold adds daily hospital cash and the child attendant allowance, which Silver has neither of. Maternity starts at Diamond, and air ambulance, accidental death cover, OPD dental and ophthalmic cover and the additional critical-illness sum insured are Platinum only.
Is there a co-payment on the Gold plan?
Not for anyone who joined by 65. The compulsory 10% co-payment applies to the Silver plan only. There is one exception on Gold: a person first covered between 65 and 70 carries a compulsory 20% co-payment on every claim, and Oriental keeps that co-payment in place at every subsequent renewal rather than removing it later. If you are close to 65 and thinking about this plan, joining before the birthday is worth several lakh over the life of the policy.
Does the sum insured get restored after a claim?
Only if you buy the restoration option, and only at inception. It is available on the Silver and Gold plans for an extra premium, at either 50% or 100% of the sum insured. When it applies, the cover refills automatically to the extent of the claim, and unusually there is no same-illness restriction – the wording caps the total restored amount for the year rather than the reason for the second claim. Oriental does not offer restoration on Diamond or Platinum at all.
Does this plan have a no-claim bonus?
No. Oriental discontinued the no-claim discount and loading structure on the Happy Family Floater, and the only thing that survives is a one-time carry-over for people who migrated from an older version of the policy. That discount then freezes and is forfeited the moment a claim is made. In practice, budget for the sum insured you bought to be the sum insured you have in ten years' time, and size it accordingly.
How long do I wait before a condition is covered?
Oriental grades the wait rather than using one number. Any illness other than an accident waits 30 days. Hypertension and diabetes wait 90 days, which is unusually short. Benign ENT disorders and polycystic ovarian disease wait a year. A long named list including cataract, hernia, piles, stone disease and hysterectomy waits two years. Joint replacement for a degenerative condition and age-related osteoarthritis and osteoporosis wait three. Declared pre-existing disease waits 36 months.
Is maternity covered on the Gold plan?
No. Maternity expenses on the Happy Family Floater are limited to the Diamond and Platinum plans, where they pay up to 2.5% of the sum insured after 24 months of continuous cover. Gold gets the newborn baby cover – a baby is covered from day one up to the full sum insured, on every tier – but not the delivery itself. If maternity is the reason you are buying, Gold is not the tier to buy.
Read it from the insurer
We summarise. The policy wording is the contract, and it is the only document that settles a dispute. These links go to the insurer's own pages.
Understand the terms before you commit
A plan page tells you what this policy does. These explain why each term matters and what it costs you when it is missing.
Other Oriental Insurance plans we have read
Oriental Insurance files these separately, and the terms differ between them. If you are choosing within the range, compare the waiting periods and the exclusions rather than the sum insured.
